Feedback on version 4.0 software

Post by Alexi_Alx_Anova »

The software looks very nice and is quite intuitive. However, the curve editor is significantly unfinished. I suppose that's why it's a beta, but as it stands, it's almost unusable.

Using TrackIR3 NOT with 6DOF.

i) Mirror values does not work correctly. When you click on one edit point, the value of the mirrored edit point jumps up significantly more. e.g., I click on edit point 5 and move it to 38, but edit point -5 jumps to 58. Click on edit point -5 in order to adjust it, and edit point 5 then jumps to another value. Generally, edit points are very unstable when Mirror values is checked.

ii) If you place the cursor in the Value box in order to manually edit it, the value jumps up apparently randomly. e.g., I click in the Value box and instantly the value jumps to 80. In addition, the corresponding graph goes off scale, even though such values should be within the blue graph box.

iii) The first time you uncheck the Mirror vlaues check box, the middle edit point jumps up randomly.

iv) If you manually move one of the edit points to a specific value (as shown in the Value box) as soon as you release the mouse button, the value jumps up or down by 1.

v) The graph in the Curve editor blue box sometimes has little or no resemblance to that presented in the Guages screen.

vi) The middle edit point appears not to remain in the value you specify. I always resets itself to something like 39.

There are numerous other aspects that are broken but I'd rather not spend my weekend noting things you should have seen before the release.

I'm sure you'll fix this soon, but I must say I'm quite surprised and dissapointed in the release of something so obviously broken. Looks like you've bitten off more than you can chew with your release date.

I didn't mess with the curve editor much, I just set it to deadzone and pretty much left it alone. So that is why I didn't notice any of those troubles.

Hi Alexi,

I just gone through each of your points and have had totally different results. It works perfectly for me with none of your indicated problems.

Maybe a mouse problem?

Alexi,

I do not have any of the problems you specified above, nor has any of this come up in any of the beta testers trials.

There was only one problem ever found with the curve editor and it has been fully fixed in beta 18.

I would advise you to do a complete re-install of the software and if it continues, email Wayne.

I was able to reproduce #IV as well as some minor variations on it. We will look into this further and try to track them all down.

Sorry for the sharpness of my first post, I was rather huffy after spending a lot of time trying to get the editor to work and then having to resort to editing the XML with Notepad.

I tried the following, but to no avail.

i) Unplugged TrackIR unit
ii) Unistalled version 4 software
iii) Rebooted
iv) Deleted TrackIR folder
v) Installed version 4 software
vi) Rebooted
vii) Plugged in TrackIR unit
viii) Rebooted

The Curve Editor behaves exactly the same as it did before.

I'm clutching at straws here, but my system has assigned 'Dreamweaver MX 2004' as the default editor for XML files. Although I've looked at my running processes and can't see anything from Dreamweaver running, could it be causing a conflict?

Also, in my installog.txt I have these lines which look ominous, although this just could be because I installed the software without having the TrackIR unit installed;
" RegisterDriverINF UpdateDriver4PnP Failed! :
USB\VID_131D&PID_0155 AND C:\Program Files\TrackIR\Drivers\NPUSB3.inf
Error = 183"

I'm running XP Pro with SP2. No other problems with USB devices. Actually, TrackIR works fine except for this editing problem.

Looking at this after Birch's post, the IV issue was the one I was speaking about. But with beta 18 I do not get the problem anymore, although I did with beta 17. For my system, this was completely fixed.

Very strange.

Alexi, please email me at ericd@naturalpoint.com. I would like to give you a debug version to help narrow down what the problem is.

Thanks,
