Track IR 3, trouble

Post by jack5577 »

Hello,

I have a TrackIR 3 that I recently tried to use again, it replaced a defective TrackIR 2 I had bought 2 years ago, and it has been sitting on my shelf for a number of months.

Anyway, the tracking is very choppy in the tracking window using the software. I'm using the track hat and have the settings for the track hat. I have also eliminated all ambient light and the tracking still is very choppy. It only smooths out if I put the had within 6 inches of the trackir and most of the hat is visible to teh sensor, not just the reflective square.

I have tried plugging it into various usb ports as well as reinstalling the software, with the same results. Any suggestions?

S/N23922

Also: The tracking screen does not show a green dot/blob as usual. It is a smudge of white and sometimes green lines that somtimes stretch across teh whole tracking screen.

Thanks,
Jack

Could you send us a copy of the Setupapi.log file?
It should be located in the C:\Windows folder

Have you tried the device on another system?

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Could you attach a screen shot of your device manager, and tracking screen?

To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed.

Windows Help: Print Screen

To do this, follow this procedure:

1. Maximize the window you'd like to capture.
2. To copy/capture the current window, hold down ALT + Print Scrn at the same time. To capture the entire screen, just press Print Scrn alone.
3. Open a new document in MS Paint, MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop.
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time.
5. Save the document as a .JPG or .JPEG file and send it in.

I have tried the unit on my desktop and laptop. I have tried several usb ports on both machines, I am not using a hub. The only other usb device is a mouse on the laptop and mouse/keyboard on the desktop. Both have the same extremely choppy tracking. I will follow your instructionsand provide the information as soon as I am able.

Thanks,
Jack

Dear Jack,
Unfortunately it looks like the hardware is starting to fail. The white lines across the track screen usually indicate a chip failure in the imager itself. It also looks like the unit itself is also out of warranty as well. I can talk with the VP of Sales about getting you an upgrade discount if you want to replace the unit.

I would like to replace the unit. A bit dissapointing since I didn't really use the unit since it was shipped to replace my original unit.

If you can do anything for me, please let me know. The unit has been shelved and not subject to any extreme conditions which would cause failure.

Vincent,

Also, can you update me on what your current warranty duration is for the TrackIR4 and TrackIR 3 pro. This is the 2nd unit that has gone bad on me and I just want to weigh that in making my decision to purchase another unit.

Thanks,
Jack
