Cool but problems

Post by ssgatbliss »

OK got the TRACKIR3 with VE about two days ago. I've got a 21 inch Sony CRT so the TrackIR is sitting eye level about 2 feet away. I've been using LOMAC and FS2004. It seems my biggest problem is looking down. When I do the TRACKIR zooms in and when I look all the way down it looks only about 3/4 of the way then will quickly shift left or right. I'm using the Hat with clip and have covered up the extra reflective surface. What I have been reduced to is disabling the zoom feature and using the extra slider on my throttle (X52) but that defeats 50% of the features with the VE. I've tried moving the look angle of the TRACKIR and distance but it still seems to do the same thing. Any Advice?

I've noticed the same thing regards zooming in when looking down and (though not as noticeable) out when looking up. I realized that the Vector clip, being located at the top of the head, actually moves toward the camera as you lower your view. You can alleviate this somewhat by reducing the zoom sensitivity or by creating a dead zone for the zoom, although the second solution is less desireable, IMO.

The other problem may be related to the angle between the reflectors and the camera. It has been discovered that when the hat is worn with the brim low the reflectors aim below the camera instead of directly at it. By rotating the cap back so the brim comes more off the top of the forehead the reflectors line up better with the camera and the response it better.

Deffinatly try and keep the face of the 3 reflectors facing the camera during full movement as von Baur sugests and try turning the sensitivity down a bit.

I can't stand tilting my hat back so I bent the reflectors back on the clip so they look more directly at the sensor, helped a little.
