Something is very wrong...

Post by tttiger »

Rec'd Vector Expansion today and it is beyond awful.

I've owned TrackIR for years, 1, 2 and 3 Pro. No problems. Except the designers have made it much more complicated than it needs to be. Too many settings to tweak.

But with Vector expansion...nothing. Or, too much. And no way to tweak it.

On dot, it doesn't move at all. The green light is on but it isn't tracking at all. My dot is on my microphone boom and always has worked well.

On Track Hat, it swings wildly. If I turn my head slightly, I am looking behind me. (And I really don't want to wear the hat, it's much too hot in the summer here -- what were they thinking when they chose a heavy wool cap?).

What it seems to be doing is accelerating my head motion way, way too much.

The tracking screen (green on black) looks okay but the "heads" view reflects its very erratic behavior.

If I had to guess, I would say the motion speed is much too high but since the old control panels no longer exist, I have no idea how to reduce motion speed (I increased smooth to 100 percent).

I'm going to give their tech support a call tomorrow but so far this is a total POS.

I'm using the correct drivers, .025. TrackIR 3 Pro. Default profile (which always has worked well for me).

Did anyone else find it totally screwed up as soon as they installed it?

I haven't a clue how to begin fixing it. I've spent a couple hours tinkering with settings (everything from linear up). And I'm not inclined to spend much more time trying.

Nothing like taking something that was working fine and adding an "improvement" that makes it unusable. For a mere $42.57 including shipping.

Geeze...Can you spell "refund"?

I agree, you should get in direct contact with our technical support team. In the meantime here are some thoughts.

The tracking with vector should actually be more stable and precise than in single Dot tracking mode, so it just sounds like there may be some kind of configuration issue.

Make sure the tracking mode is set to "vector" and not "dot". This is done on a per-profile basis in the Edit Profile window.

Have you removed the dot from your microphone boom? If you are no longer using single Dot tracking mode, then it is best to keep extra reflective targets out of the cameras field of view for best performance.

In the camera tracking window, when you have the Vector Clip in its field of view, are all three of the vector reflective targets colored green?

Also, have you activated your vector expansion? (Just checking to be sure).

Thanks for responding, Birch.

The response to all your suggestions is, yes, I've done all that.

Since the tracking unit worked just fine before I activated Vector Expansion, and there is no hardware involved except the reflectors on the hat clip, it can't be a hardware problem.

Everyone raves about how good it is, so it must be a config problem of some sort. Or something I did that I shouldn't have done. Or something I didn't do that I should have

I even removed and reinstalled the drivers.

Very odd.

Don't have time to monkey with it until this afternoon

Thanks for getting back to me.

Chatted with support by phone.

Turns out Progressive is the least aggressive of the settings so I started tweaking from there.

It's still not as smooth as the former dot system but it's usable.

Having all those additional axes is pretty cool.

Thanks,
