My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddently stopped workin
Re: My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddently stopped workin
Add my name to the list.
My TIR 1 ran without a hitch for 3 years. I got the TIR4 a week ago and it just quit working yesterday.
I've tried all of the suggested fixes as well. Im running XP and it recognizes the TIR4 unit. The software cant see it tho.

Re: My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddently stopped workin
I hope this is not going to be a problem. I just ordered a TIR4. My 3 is fine so I will use it as a back up.
Re: My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddently stopped workin
There are a variety of possible causes and fixes.
*Try connecting the unit directly to motherboard
*Try unit out on a second computer
*Try running our registry fix
*Make sure you are running the latest software
*Make sure the unit is pointed toward you
Please contact me directly (or email support@naturalpoint.com) if you are running into this, so we can figure out the appropriate fix for your system. When you email please make sure to include your TrackIR Serial # and current version of software.
Thanks

Re: My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddently stopped workin
Hi everybody,
I have the same problem, but generally when my computer restart involuntarily.
When the problem occurs, I see only the red light turned on. At this moment I can see in the software that the hardware is still recognized. Then I go to the tracking settings in order to turn camera LEDs On, but nothing happens, camera LEDs stay turned Off...
I go to the Device Manager and I can see the TrackIR in the USB device list.
I disconnect the TrackIR, it disappears from the list after a few minutes.
When I plug in it, it doesn't reappear in the list (and no sound from Window), the red light is turned Off. There is only a weak red light on the top of the Hardware.
I erase the TrackIR software and the rest of the folder, I restart my computer, I install the software, I restart again the computer and finally Window recognizes TrackIR device and ask me to load the TrackIR's drivers...
After this boring task it works well... until the next reboot
PS : I have turned Off the power save feature
I plug in the TrackIR directly on the motherboard
I already had a TIR4 who worked very well untill he overheats. (well... I think)
I hope that my English is comprehensible

What is the Serial # of the device?
Should be located on the end of the cable, near the USB plug, or on the underside of the device.
Could you send us a copy of the Setupapi.log file?
It should be located in the C:\Windows folder
Have you tried the device on another system?
Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?
Could you attach a screen shot of your device manager, and tracking screen?
To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed.
Windows Help: Print Screen
To do this, follow this procedure:
1. Maximize the window you'd like to capture.
2. To copy/capture the current window, hold down ALT + Print Scrn at the same time. To capture the entire screen, just press Print Scrn alone.
3. Open a new document in MS Paint, MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop.
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time.
5. Save the document as a .JPG or .JPEG file and send it in.

Re: My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddently stopped workin
This is by FAR the most annoying piece of hardware I've ever come in contact with. This nonsense of tech support repeatedly telling people to uninstall and reinstall the device and or drivers is totally insulting.
Some days the device works fine, other days it doesn't. Sometimes the OS detects it, sometimes it doesn't. Oftentimes when it does, the device simply refuses to work until you either unplug it and plug it back in, or have to resort to a complete reinstall of the device and software.
I have seen NUMEROUS complaints about this most annoying phenomenon and various other similar manifestations of the same problem. It's not like this is a 10 dollar item. Consumers deserve better treatment than this and I would recommend you start to understand that.
Your product is obviously flawed. Either it's the hardware or the software, or a combination of both. Take some of the probably very generous profits you're making and hire somebody that is clever enough to fix it.....period.
Thanks,
A less then impressed customer
P.S.
And if you're thinking about deleting my post....go ahead, and I'll go straight to the media and various other agencies with it so you get some REAL good exposure.

Re: My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddently stopped workin
I was just wondering how many other USB (Universal Seriously-flakey Bus) devices people are running in conjunction with the Track IR?
Its my experience that 9/10 problems with USB devices are the result of clashes with other devices or just seriously flakey USB ports but mostly its just windows strugglin to get its ass in gear.
One thing I found to be a contributing factor in many of my USB problems with other periferals was a poor earth on the I/O shield plate between the MOBO and the CHASSIS.
Also if you have a box that you didnt build yourself (DELL or such like) it can often have unshielded USB ports that dont use the extra black wire on the jumper block on the MOBO, This results in a poor connection and seriously flakey performance so i'd always recommend running devices from the rear of your Pc rather than a HUB or the convenient ports on the front (seriously this does make a difference).
If only microsoft hadn't bullied other ports off modern MOBOs things would be ok and we'd all be using PS/2 serial interfaces instead of this USB crap. Many modern MOBOs dont even have a serial port anymore and they're fasing out the parrallel port too!
The Track IR4 is a SWEET bit of kit and although there maybe some damaged units on sale in some rare instances it shouldn't put people off having one.

Dear Custer,
We have sold 1000's of TrackIR units, and yours is atypical. If you are having issues, please feel free to contact us, and we will do our best to troubleshoot the issue.
