Thanks for your reply Barred but I don't believe those things you mentioned to be the cause of the problem, simply because they didn't cause any problems with the last stable driver I used.

The red dots you are referring to in the first shot are actually from the central reflector on the track hat, and it always turns red when the other three reflectors are visible (presumably because they are higher priority). In the second shot where the central reflector becomes green, I always thought that was a design feature where it would stand in for the top reflector when my head is tilting at a fairly high angle.

So in any event I'm inclined to stand by my original assumption that something is screwy with alpha 3 (which wouldn't be terribly surprising since it's alpha ).

Actually, the TrackIR software gets confused, and tries switching between the different reflectors.

There should only be the 3 reflectors in the tracking window. I would recommend covering up the reflector on the Track hat with a piece of electrical tape, as to prevent the software from trying to use it as a reference point.

Thanks for the tip Vince. Amazingly I used the unmodified trackhat through almost the entire lifespan of FS9 without noticing any problems.

After covering the center reflector, the problem with pitching my head upwards was indeed resolved but strange behavior still occurred when pitching down, just as previously described.

I'm still seeing the issue.

If I want to fly with my TrackIR setup, I have to install the .28 drivers. If I want to roll the dice to see if they Alpha drivers will work with FSX, I uninstall the .28s, install the Alphas, and give it a shot. Unfortunately, the alphas only work properly about 1/3rd of the time, regardless of sim.

Of course, the MOMENT I uninstall the alpha drivers and fall back the device works flawlessly.

Seems pretty clear that this is a driver issue.

Thanks.

We are currently working on the issue, among several others, and hope to have more information posted soon.
