Problem with jittering - green and red dots

Post by hamselv »

Back in November 2005 I bought a TrackIR4. It has worked flawless until approximately a week ago. I use the TrackIR4 with IL-2 Pacific Fighters 4.04m and 4.05m.

The problems started with the TrackIR having a hard time viewing right and backwards: either it wouldn't do it at all, or it was very jerky. I tried to compensate by turning the camera slightly to one side which helped a bit. A couple of days ago it became obvious that something was wrong, as I now got serious jittering - without moving my head - primarily when the view was centered. I have tried several camera positions, and profiles with no solution.

When I open the TrackIR software setup window I can see that the software sees the normal 3 green reflector dots from the vector clip, but ALSO smaller red 'dots'/blemishes when the view is centered. I haven't seen those red dots before.

I have been using the driver version 4.1.028final almost as long as it has been available, and I have also tested the new v4.1.029 alpha3 driver, but it doesn't make any difference. All TrackIR drivers were cleaned out before install of new driver. The TrackIR wasn't plugged in before the driver was installed.

I haven't changed the lighting or other physical setup in the room.

I have tried connecting to all my USB ports (no hubs) - no difference.
I have been using the TrackIR visor without the reflective dot.

Maybe the camera unit is overheating as it feels quite hot ?

I've sent an email to NaturalPoint yesterday. Screenshots are attached to the email. So is my unit number.

Kind regards

I haven't received any email from you, Vincent.

Could you perhaps resend it, please ?

Thanks in advance.

So far your suggested solution seems to have cured the jittering.

I did this:

In the Task manager I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del once on my keyboard. Went to the processes tab - and selected the TrackIR.exe file, right clicked on it and selected "set priority" to 'Above normal' (and later 'High'). Both the tested priority settings seemed to solve the problem.
There are still small, red blemishes in the vector tracking window though.

My next question is this: it's a bit annoying to have to set the TrackIR.exe priority manually every time I want to start my TrackIR - especially as I have never had to that before. Is it possible to give the TrackIR.exe file a higher default priority ?
I don't understand why the problem has started in the first place. I don't remember changing any settings - or installing things that could cause this. Do you know of any explanations, Vincent ?

Thanks for your help.
