Internal Failure: 0x80040707

Post by hag »

I ended a Falcon AF 4.0 mission with the normal <Esc> then end mission button and got the dreaded black screen of death... i sat for 5 minutes and couldn't get anything... <ctrl+alt+del>, windows key, nothing would bring me back to Falcon or even Windows...

i turned off the power, waited about a minute, rebooted and noticed my trackIR was acting a little weird...

i attempted to uninstall via the control panel and received the Internal Failure notification... I unplugged the TrackIR and attempted to reinstall the driver... again the same failure... pics below of the failure sequence... i rebooted again without TrackIR plugged in... created a restore point and then removed every instance of Natural Point from the registery and HD... i noticed that Natural Point had control of several ( about 5 USB ports )... i have moved my system from one room to another and plugged all the USB devices back in and had plugged TrackIR in a completely random port on several occassions... possibly 5... finally i removed every instance/folder of TrackIR from the program folder group... i verified that TrackIR was no longer in the Control Panel>Uninstall Menu ( it was not there ) and rebooted twice... 1 minute between each...

I got out the TrackIR install disk that came with the device ( Ver 4.1.028 ) and placed it into the CD drive and let it begin it's auto install... again... Internal Failure... as a last resort... i plugged in the TrackIR and let windows autodetect it... it did and requested the install disk's location... i provided it and the install started again... this time it stopped requesting a npusb.sys file that is not located on my system... about to restore but thought i'd let you guys see if there was something obvious that i'm missing..

Thanks...

I clicked on each button and followed the onscreen prompts... notice that there is no data available in some of the dialog boxes...

system restore seemed to get it fixed and then down it goes again...

again i cleared everything from the registry & local and did some testing on where i was plugging in the TrackIR... seems i had plugged it into the usb root hub and either trackIR or my computer really doesn't like that...

i reinstalled... plugged into the the main usb bus and bob's your uncle... TIR again at last...

I didn't connect the device yet, unplugged all my usb devices, and logged as administrateur (i already was admin...)
I downloaded up to date drivers, still error.
Can anyone help me ? I can't make a system restore because it's my first install of this software?!

If you're getting this error message as part of an installation or upgrade routine, here's one of the easiest ways to circumvent the problem:

1. Go to the directory that holds the file for launching the installation (for example, Setup.exe).

2. Right-click on the installation file and select Run As.

3. Uncheck the box that says Protect My Computer And Data From Unauthorized Activity, and click OK.

Alternatively, if you're running this installation from a CD, you may need to simply clean the CD and try the installation again. Another possibility for resolving this error is to run Windows Update on the system before running the installation routine.

If none of those solutions work, try these two links, which provide additional information on the error and ways to overcome it:

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem. Just recieved my trackIR 4 and can't install due to the Internal Failure as described above.

Unfortunately, none of the suggested solutions work either. Unticking "Protect My Computer And Data From Unauthorized Activity" won't help and my registry is correct according to the installshield support site.

I'm using Windows Media Center on an AMD 2x setup.

Hope you can help me out! Thanks,
/Nils

Try using the following windows installer cleanup utility

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;290301

If that dosen't work then download a new version of the windows installer and run it, reboot and try again.
