XP Not finding drivers-No 'continue anyway' popup
Heya guys,
So I just got my new Trackir 4 w/ vector. I downloaded the latest 29 drivers, installed, and plugged in the Trackir. I say 'no' to check online for drivers, and 'Automatically Install'. Next thing is I get an error message saying that no drivers could be found for your device. (I've tried manually installing it from Device Manager, and pointing to the .inf file, but get the same message) Curiously I never get the message about 'this driver is not signed...Continue Anyway during install of the drivers. I tried installing it on a friends laptop and home machine, and he is getting those messages during install, while I am not. (It works perfectly on his two machines)
Here is what I think is he bottom lines from my setupapi.log file, starting with the first instance of 'Trackir' from a Find in notepad. You can see a lot of the attempts. May also see where I forgot to uninstall before I installed again. But I've tried a complete uninstall of all drivers, reboot, and reinstall. First install was on the USB hub on a Dell flat panel, then uninstalled and tried again with 2 different ports on the mobo. None of those worked.

Re: XP Not finding drivers-No 'continue anyway' popup
Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?
Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?
Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?
In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Hub"(s) that show and turn off the power saving feature that turn those ports off when idle. Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Re: XP Not finding drivers-No 'continue anyway' po
Hi Vincent,
Well, as mentioned the first try was on the USB hub built into a Dell flat panel monitor. After a few unsuccessful tries there, I unintsalled, rebooted, and then tried another USB port- this one right on the motherboard. That didnt work again, so uninstalled, rebooted, and tried another port on the motherboard. Still a no go.
I'll take a look at the power settings. Also, I'm not sure I understand when you say to 'isolate the device'.
Thanks!

Re: XP Not finding drivers-No 'continue anyway' po
I have had my Track IR4 unit for about 1 year now - since then have had a replacement sent out due to the first one refusing to be aknowledged by my system after about 2 weeks. Now a year on the same thing has happened with this one?
It is listed as an unknow device in the device manager and no drivers are installed for it according to the properties.
Nothing changed on my system, all was well and then the next day after using it I get a faint red light on the top and nothing else.

Please email me the following info.......
What is the Serial # of the device?
It should be located on the end of the cable, near the USB plug, or on the underside of the device.
Could you send us a copy of the Setupapi.log file?
It should be located in the C:\Windows folder
Have you tried the device on another system?

Could you attach a screen shot of your device manager, and tracking screen?
To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed.
Windows Help: Print Screen
To do this, follow this procedure:
1. Maximize the window you'd like to capture.
2. To copy/capture the current window, hold down ALT + Print Scrn at the same time. To capture the entire screen, just press Print Scrn alone.
3. Open a new document in MS Paint, MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop.
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time.
5. Save the document as a .JPG or .JPEG file and send it in.
