Hello Laruna,
The Linux drivers were being done on a volunteer basis by another person and his drivers are available at:
http://trackir.superlucidity.net/
However, the one restriction to this is that in order to use these drivers, you must have a unit with a serial number of 11499 or less. Any unit with serial number 11500 or higher will not work due to a new board rev that rendered the drivers inoperable.

I have a new version of the package that should support all current and past models of the trackIR and SmartNAV.
This thread is the first place I saw the serial number restriction (and comes with my last post, of course), and I'll have to investigate that situation further.
In addition to having the firmware files included in the distribution package, this update uses libusb to talk with the device and no longer requires you to patch your kernel.
If you would like to receive a copy of this next version before it is released, please send an email to trackir@superlucidity.net and we'll give you the required download information.
Cheers,
Zach Welch
