TIR not working in FS9

Post by Tako_Kichi »

Hi,

I got my TIR4 Pro yesterday and after some initial problems with v.30 hanging on closing (see the thread on that problem) I now appear to have problems with FS9.

Yesterday I had TIR working in FS9 with no problems and also in BoB2-WoV and a third flight sim that I am a beta tester for and which has not been officially launched yet.

At some point during the evening TIR stopped working in FS9 (not sure when exactly as I was switching between the various sims to test TIR out) and now I cannot get TIR to work in FS9 at all!

I have uninstalled/reinstalled both the TIR and FS9 applications several times to no avail. I have tried everything I can possibly think of but nothing is working. I am running the FS9 update patch and also have the 'no cd' fix applied and that was the case when TIR was working last night too.

This is getting really frustrating as I would obviously like to get TIR working again in FS9 especially as I have several planes to test in that game and ideally I would like to test them with the TIR working. TIR is still working fine in the other two sims BTW.

For reference the system here is Win2K Pro with SP4, 3.4 Ghz processor, 2 Gb RAM, 256 Mb GFX card.

Any help in getting TIR working again in FS9 would be greatly appreciated .

Make sure you have the standard language.dll installed with FS2004. Some custom versions of the DLL remove strings required by TrackIR.

Ensure that the notification messages in FS2004 are turned on. The notifications appear in the upper right corner in red when switching to the virtual cockpit. The setting is found in your fs9.cfg file located by default in:

c:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
[Main]
HideInfoText=0

There is a known issue with the "Messagekill" utility for Flight Simulator 2004 which prevents the TrackIR version 4 software from working. Therefore, this utility should not be used if you wish to use the TrackIR for view control. If the "MessageKill" utility is patched so that it will not interfere with the TrackIR, then we will update this information.

What add-on applications are you using with FS9?

I checked and the language.dll file is in the root directory for FS9. Whether or not it is the 'standard' language.dll I have no idea.

That line was NOT in my .cfg file so I added it in the right place (under [Main]). I tested the sim and I still have no TIR.

I had never heard of "Messagekill" until your reply so it is not installed on my system.

I have done two complete uninstall/reinstall cycles of FS9 since the problem appeared last night and I am currently running with no add-ons whatsoever (no extra scenery, no extra planes, no extra utilities, no 'no CD' fix) and I can't get TIR to work at all. When it was working last night I had the 'no CD' fix in place, had FSACC (aircraft consistency check) installed and had a boat-load of extra planes and scenery in place.

FS9 is just refusing to see TIR and for the life of me I cannot see why so any help I can get on this would be great. Something obviously changed last night but despite repeated reinstalls I cannot back to the state I was at when TIR worked with no problems!

Did you get a clean install of both softwares when you reinstalled?

Have you tried a manual uninstall of FS2004?

I just followed those instructions to the letter, reinstalled FS9, the FS9.1 updater and the FS9.1 NO_CD fix and FS9 still won't talk to the TIR4. I also checked if it worked between every one of those installs with no luck. I then double checked with both BoB2-WoV and Air Battles-Sky Defender (a new, soon to be released title I am a beta-tester for) and TIR4 works perfectly in those games.

In a previous question (via email) you asked if the blue light came on when FS9 is running a flight and I can now confirm that the blue light never comes on in FS9, the green and four reds do but not the blue. However, the blue light DOES illuminate in both BoB2-WoV and AB-SD. Is this part of the problem? Incidentally I am running v30 of the TIR software on Win2K.

Thanks for your help in trying to get this problem sorted.
