TrackIR 4 loses connection to FSX

Post by Xiderpunk »

Have owned TrackIR for quite some time and generally love it, however I am finding that most flights I have to pause FSX go back to the desktop and restart TrackIR as it frequently stops working.

This has more recently led me to stop using TrackIR as a result.

Is there a fix intended or could this mean I need a replacement unit?

Warm regards,

What do you mean by it stops working?

Does the software crash?

Does the unit just stop responding?

Does it happen after a given time period?

What OS are you running?

What add-on applications do you have installed for FSX?

Do you see this with other applications?

What version of the TrackIR software are you running?

In the following folder location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles, what is the file size for each profile?

Looking at the Tracking screen, TrackIR software->View->Tracking, Do you see 3 green points? any red?

I have the same issue and read and tried all the suggestions in the other posts about this.

Im my case here are the answers to your questions

1. For me this means when I start FSX I get no blue light and no view movement control at all in the game. The green tracking light is lit.

2. No it's running just fine.

3. The Unit is tracking evidenced by the green light and the fact that If I open the heads or tracking window while the game is also running, the heads and green dots move as expected.

4. No. It's constant. Altho it did work fine in FSX for quite some time.

5. XP Media Center SP2 all updates as of today with all current drivers.

6. FSX Deluxe, SP1, no addons or other stuff.

7. No. It workes perfect in rFactor, IL2, Race 07, GTR2

8. 4.01 Build 30

9. Combat Flight 2KB
Default 5KB
Flight 4KB
Racing 2KB

10. 3 Green no red

Hi Vincent,

The details are as following:

1. It works fine for a random period of time then stops working inside FSX.

2. No the TrackIR software continues working OK, but it reverts to show no active game ('None' for 'Current game').

3. Yes the unit stops responding as no game is available.

4. It is random, it can happen within 10 minutes or 30 minutes etc.

5. Vista Ultimate 32

6. FSX Deluxe + Acceleration + SP2, other addons include many airplanes + Flight Environment X + UTX USA & Canada + Horizon VFR UK.

7. No only with TrackIR.

8. 4.1 Build 30

9. Combat_Flight - 2KB
Default_Profile - 4 KB
Flight - 2 KB
Racing - 2 KB

10. Three green.

If this may help, it looks as though TrackIR is disconnecting from SimConnect periodically. In writing code for SimConnect I found I had to occasionally re-connect so could this be the cause?

Also I understand you have many users still on SP1 for FSX so at the moment probably not practical to make sweeping changes, however SP2 allows you to connect to SimConnect through Named Pipes which is an order of magnitude faster than TCP/IP. (Whilst not related to my particular problem I just wanted to mention it for future consideration).

Are you running any firewall/antivirus software?

OK, one step to try.

1 - Delete the following file folder

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_x-ww_429211e9

2 - Insert the FSX CD, and run the repair utility. Basically we are looking to reinstall the folder.

3 - Hopefully this should remedy the issue.

Please let me know if this helps.

Yes we will be updating to SP2 support, as the original simconnect has some issues.......

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

AVG and xp firewall. I disable AVG when I play the game. I tried deleting and repairing simconnect a couple days before I posted. I'd read a couple threads here and tried the stuff in them. Power management is off for all my USB ports. No external hubs instlled here, plugging direct into mobo.

I gave up. Nothing I found here or a couple other places I found similar posts worked. I'm positive it's an FSX issue so not faulting natural point. It works perfectly in all the other games I use it in. Complete reinstall did the trick. Thank you for trying.

God Bless partitions with disk images on em lol. I'd have hated to reinstall everything again from scratch.
