new to track ir and having glitchs (arma and swg)

Post by mrgreaper »

ok i brought a trackir ultra new from ebay
it arrived today
******
before i continue i would like to point out my one major problem with the device (well major and unable to fix from a forum) when it arrived there was no way to put it on my head!!!!! i have to use a head set so i can clip the trackclip and the metal thingy on thats a major design flaw not all of us like to have headphones on specialy those of us that invested a couple of hundred pounds into a 7.1 surround sound setup!!!!! ok rant over back to what i believe can be fixed
******

first thing i did is install it update it from the net and follow the quick setup (the minute i set it to trackclip pro in the default profile option the dots changed from 6 to 3 (does this mean i dont need the metal top of the head thing?) and i load up arma
i go into a map in the editor to test it out ......my guy keeps zooming in and out at random, i adjusted the light settings repostitoned the clip so the sensor things were out further but still a little jolt now either my little soldier is scared stiff of the enemys and is shaking or i have this thing configured wrong im assuming the later

ok i loaded up swg (star wars galaxies) took off presed f12 to recentre my view
i look a litle to my right my avatar looks left then up then down
i look a little up my avatar looks down then glitchs again and looks every which way
so i take of thetrack clip and put on the cheap bit of metal with the reflectors
i look right my char looks right
i look left my char looks a bit left then straight up
i look up he looks up
but occasionly it will look randomly elsewhere

from this i gather u use the cheap bit of metal for some games and the track clip for otheres?

due to my set up (the tv hangs on the wall not a monitier i am 2 maybe 3 feet from the little box thing though i did put it to the left of the screen and level with my trackclip as instructed could this be the cause of the problem if so what setting do i change to allow it to work right ????)

its working nothing like the demo video ! man i feel coned

Before you installed it you should have read the manual and the software manual (as with any new device).

For instance, each of the profiles has a setting for whether you are using trackclip pro or vector (i.e., the hat reflectors) mode. Also, with trackclip pro put the TrackIR device to the left side of your monitor. With vector (hat reflectors) put it in the center.

You should only use either the TrackClip Pro (attached to a headset), or the standard trackclip (vector) attached to the brim of a hat.

Within the TrackIR software, View -> Tracking, you should only see 3 green dots any any given time, if you see more than 3 green, or any red the software will have a hard time tracking the dots that it should, and will cause erratic movement as it jumps between different IR points.

You need to edit the X axis in the profile you use for Arma so it has a big dead zone otherwise the game will think you are half leaning all the time. It looks similar to tapping the Q or E keys quickly. I also turned up the sensitivity so when I do trigger a lean it does it quicker.
For zoom you could try a mod called 'trueview' http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/i ... nboard.cgi? but a lot of people disable it and use right mouse button.

that helped no end i disabled z and changed x to custom and moved the first few dots to the bottom (assume that creates a dead zone)
it worked thers still the occasional violent jolt if u trun ur head to far but i guess thats always gonna happen

the mod however seems to have changed into a serise of mini mods rolled up into one but i have them installed now

all in all though im kicking myself for wasting money on this

You won't feel like that for long I feel. It is a quality product and no I'm not on the payroll. I too bought the ultra and it took me a fair while to get it set up and I had a few doubts but when it is properly set up it cannot be beaten.
I'm not familiar with the Star Wars game you mentioned but I play Arma and I know what a pain that game is to get set up right. If your deadzone is too narrow on the X axis or you move about a lot while you play your triggering the lean slightly all the time which will cause your screen to jolt around and stop you running.
Have you tried Arma with Trackir in a helicopter yet?

not tried it in a chopper yet, decided to waith till i got a few days of work to set it up proberly ( and to be honest even though i got the jolts down a bit after fiddling with it for over an hour i still felt rather ill renember im playing arma on a 45inch hd tv (yes i have moved the camera unit much closer but the jolts and the way it looks all over the place when u look certain ways are annoying as hell and make me VERY ill)) i wish it worked how they showed it on the dem vedio out of the box hell arma was on the demo video !!!! it should work out of the box specialy how expensive it was

i hope ur right and i come to love it i really do but at the mo 5 of my mates that were gonna get one have all said never in a million years and my original plan of setting the over tracking to 0 and using video glasses to create a virtual reality headset .....well thats out of the window the device is just not good enough for that (its shocking that this is the 4th generation of this device how bad were the last three!!!?!?!?)

its safe to say at the moment i am one VERY unhappy customer

Try this. This is my profile for Arma. Copy the text below and paste it into a notepad txt document. Save it as Arma.xml
You will need to have extensions showing otherwise it will be Arma.txt
Paste it into C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles or wherever you installed to and specify it in the auto load for Armed Assault.

Arma

Its not a perfect profile but I'm getting there. Make sure you center the view whenever you load up a new level (F12) and try the helicopters out.
Good Luck,
JaZ.

ps. you will need to stop and restart the software to pick up the new profile.
