Can't center view
Can't center view
Pausing is no problem in IL2 but no matter what I do, no matter what key I assign the centering to, it doesn't work. I can't get it to center when in the game. I can get it to work out in the windows desktop but not in IL2.
What could be the problem? Any Ideas?
I am using the Belkin Nostromo commander for this.

Re: Can't center view
I think you mean that the view will not center on your gunsight? This is normal. Until the developers integrate built in support for trackIR, you will have this problem. When you press the CENTER TRACKIR button, your not centering your view. You are centering the dots location in regards to the hardware unit. Basically, setting the dots location as the center.
The best thing to do, is to pause TrackIR, switch to an external view, switch back to your internal view, center trackIR, and then unpause trackIR. It seems a bit cumbersome, but you can map it to joystick buttons or to the keypads / * - + buttons. Then you just quickly hit each button in a rox and it is fixed.
If your playing on a server with external views off, then you have to manually use your head to bring it back around.
Remember, all of this will be fixed VERY soon when Oleg gets the integrated support into FB, IL-2, LOMAC, ect.
Try not to move your head so fast in the game. That solved all my centering issues. Move your slider speeds up a bit, set your in game mouse sensitivity to 2, and lower your smoothing. Then dont move your head as fast. That should clear it all up. Play with the settings and see what you can come up with.

Re: Can't center view
For IL-2, I re-assigned num pad 5 to ctrl key.(easier to get at) that button will center your cockpit view . Even if my trackir view is stuck way back at 6 oclock , it will only take at the most 3 or 4 clicks of the ctrl (or numpad5) key, whichever you prefer , to center back to the gunsight. Just got my trackir unit today and after about an hour of tweaking , i love it.

Re: Can't center view
If your using a Hotus and can assign buttons and macros to them, it is eazy.
I use an x-45 with Dhauzimmer's drivers.
I set F10 as pause key.
So I just defined a key on my throttle to do this.
I have a button defined as TrackIR_Center.
Define TrackIR_center F10 wait 200 KP_5 wait 200 F10
this hits F10 (pauses TIR), then hits KP_5(recenter game view), then F10 again to unpause TIR)
so.. just look at the center of monitor, press one button and keep on flying.
Lorak

Do you know if there is a way to set wait times with the Saitek Official Software?

Re: Can't center view
Honestly, I don't know. At the time I bought my x-45 the saitek drivers were crap and didn't support anything. So I have never used them.

Jim: There have been a lot of New Satisfied Customers in the recent past.... looks like you guys are doing something right!
Will check inot the key pad 5 use. I hadnt thought to use that before. This may be an important peice of information to those who will continue playing IL-2 after FB comes out (if Oleg doesnt get a patch for IL-2 to incorporate built in TIR support).
Thanks for the info.

Re: Can't center view
I have IL2 set up with hat for all the various view directions, prior to getting trackIR.
I just got TIR today, and playing IL2, if my view gets messed up, I just look straight forward and press my hat up/down or down/up and because I have snap view selected (f9 in IL2?) it snaps to centre after going the directions I hit on the hat. Same as NumPad 5, I guess.
Try it, it works fine for me.

Re: Can't center view
Yup, same concept of using KP5. The only catch here is that most people use their hat switches for other commands instead of views. Once they have TrackIR for views, a POV hat isnt needed. So most do not have that option.
KP5 does work. Pause - KP5 - Unpause has your view fixed in a few seconds.

Re: Can't center view
If understand all the posts here, it seems that others out there are able to click a joystick button within IL2 to center the view. Or to pause it.
I have 2 buttons assigned to do both the pause and center but for some unknown reason, the pause works but not the center. Both work in windows but not inside IL2.
I am guessing that by the time i get this figured out, Forgotten Battles will be out.
