TrackIR SDK vs Optitrack SDK

Post by cranesim »

Hi, I've been experimenting with using a TrackIR 4 Pro with Vector clip to provide head tracking for our simulators. So far this has been achieved using the Optitrack SDK. Is there any advantage in switching to the TrackIR SDK, other than direct support for profiles / scaling through the TrackIR software? Would I be likely to see any increase in the tracking quality?

At the moment I'm experiencing quite a lot of jitter / jumping of the head position (the orientation seems fine). Using the smooothing helps to a certain extent - but this of course also introduces more lag.

The TrackIR SDK is optimized for head tracking with both types of TrackClip, so it offers the most expedient path to stable and precise tracking. You can certainly optimize your own Opti SDK solution to the point where it should have similar results, but you'll have more of a programmatic burden in that process. If you are planning on releasing your sim commercially, I'd recommend sending in a TrackIR SDK request. I'll look over it and get back to you on how we can best support your needs.
