TrackIR 4 Stopped Working

Post by Crunch_ »

Not sure what happened. My Trackir was working fine for the 2 years I have owned it. All of a sudden it stopped working. I have the camera connected directly to the USB port of my mainboard. All drivers are up to date. I cannot think what has changed software wise so I am thinking it is a hardware failure.

Plugging and unplugging the TIR brings up the hardware wizard. I can get the listing in device mgr to read Natural Point Device with no yellow exclamation. When I start the TIR 4 software through it says, "no device detected". All I get is the blue light blinking on the camera.

Please advise what I should do next. I miss my TIR already! Thanks.

Also, After Window's restarts the TIR will not be listed in device manager. I have done a Window's restore as well as use NPRegFix.exe but no luck.

Sorry. I don't see an email. Should I have one? I did phone however. It turns out my TIR4 is actually 3 years old and it has failed. I hope my TIR5 lasts longer, but I understand that with electronics this can happen.

So I went with the new TIR5. Can you please tell me if older games take advantage of the higher resolution of TIR5 or do games need to programmed specifically to support all the improvements? Thanks

If the game is limited to 2DOF support, then the TrackIR 5 will not magically allow for 6DOF support, as the DOF is set by the developer, and is somewhat independent of which hardware is being used.

Thanks Vincent. I understand about the DOF, but in terms of resolution and tracking smoothness as demonstrated in the NP resolution comparison video, will older games take advantage of that? I imagine the answer is yes?

Yes, as that is the camera and TrackIR software, and independent of the gaming software.
