Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
I have had my TrackIR 3 Pro with the vectors for about 3 years I think. I used it for a while on my old Windows XP system with FS04. But I never got comfortable with that and at some point I quit using it.
I am now running a high end Dell XPS system under Vista 32 and of course FSX. Just in the last couple of weeks I've been trying to get back into using the TrackIR.
I made my own profile for FSX with some fairly agressive graphs and I have come to really like it in the 3D cockpit. But I'm not fond of it in the spot or 2D views. I know I can turn it off when I go to those views but it seems to get messed up when I do that. I have reassigned the commands to keys that do not conflict with FSX commands but it still seems to create problems.
The one thing I did like with the older version of the software was the fact that the TrackIR was only active in the 3D cockpit view. Is there any way I can set it to only be active in that view?

Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
The only way to do that is to pause the TrackIR software, when in any view, besides the VC.
Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
Perhapes you can add the ability to choose which views are active with TrackIR in a future release?
I personally think it would be a worthwhile addition.

Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
Unfortunately it is something that is set/determined within FSX itself.
Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
Thanks for the quick reply!
So is there a way to set it within FSX?
I have a key defined to pause TrackIR but like I said earlier when I do that the device or more likely the software tends to get confused after a couple of times and eventually I will have to abort the flight. I only get that problem when I do pause & release the TrackIR.
Having the ability to select only the 3D cockpit to be active for TrackIR would make the use of the device much more intutitive IMO.
Sorry to be such a pain with this but this is an important issue with me. That said I promise not to belaber the subject further.

Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
There is nothing within the FSX menu features to control the view.
Gets confused?
You should just be able to recenter the view, using the F12 (default) key to readjust the camera view.

Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
Vincent,
When I say it gets confused I mean that after several times of pausing and releasing the TrackIR it will sometimes stop reacting to the center command. I have had this happen maybe 5 times in 20+ flights. On 2 of those the view was in a position that was workable to make a landing but in the other 3 cases the angle was such that I couldn't judge my position and I had to abort the flight.
I have also done about 5 flights in which I stayed in the 3D cockpit the whole time and I had no failures during those. Also no failures in 2 flights where I switched between 3D cockpit, 2D cockpit, and spot but did not pause the TrackIR.
By what you told me over on the AVSIM forums I gather that this is a situation that I am going to have to learn to live with.
In some of the aircraft with more complex panels or switches that are hard to reach or are not functional in the 3D cockpit I will have to make a decision if I really want to use TrackIR.
Oh well.
Thank you for being so patient with me.
Have a great evening!

Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
You should also be able to just use the center key feature to recenter the view. Does this stop working?
Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
Vincent,
That is my point. After a number of times pausing the TrackIR the center funcion will sometimes stop working. I haven't had it happen since before my last post here but I have only done a half dozen flights since then and I have not paused the TrackIR.
Thanks,
Tom Wunder

Re: Can I restrict the active views in FSX?
What key are you using to recenter?
Could be conflicting with something else. You could try remapping it to someting like the Print Screen or Scroll lock keys.
