I too am having these stutters with trackir 4 pro on my win7 32 box.

Was ok with xp, worked so smoothly.

I am though using version 5 software like a lot of posters in this thread. I will uninstall and install v4 software and see what that does.

EDIT::

Tried installing the latest v4 drivers. When trying to run the software, it does not run.

Managed to install the drivers the Track IR 4 pro shipped with (CD), and the stuttering is still there. I presume its a win7 problem.

I recall a user in a earlier post stating to put the priority of the track ir .exe to high, and it seemed to cure the problem (i put mine on realtime priority)

I lowered the priority to low, and the stutters came back. Finally deciding to put it back to realtime.

Solution?

None of the above really helped, nor did reverting to TIR4.
But today i remembered that i had gadgets installed although not currently viewing on the desktop. I had 3 of these: calender, clock and wheater. After uninstalling them i noticed a superb decrease in stuttering in FSX. I had just my thirth flight (not lenghtly) with as good as no stutter at all.
Maybe worth a try?

The above is not the solution. Had some severe stutter yesterday. The moment i entered the aircraft on the flightline it was already noticable and got worse and worse.
One thing i did notice is that when the stutter starts, both cores of my CPU run at 100%.

I am actually having the same problem with FS9. I run XP 64, tried with the V4 software as well as 5.0 Beta and Final. Yesterday for the first time I tried to really diagnose what was killing my performance and low and behold it is TrackIR.

My Scenario:
No TrackIR loaded or running. FPS locked at 60
Track IR Loaded but paused. FPS locked at 60
TrackIR enabled FPS 19-20 in the same situation as above. Even unpausing only moderately and sporadically helps. FPS will never return to 60 after I have used TrackIR once but once I pause it again they will go back to 40-45.

So today I am doing my first flight in ages without TrackIR and low and behold FS is smooth...

None of what I said worked for me either. I thought it did, until I did a longer flight. When I posted about my fix, I only did a quick test.

On xp with fsx it was real smooth, always.

Just not the case with w7.

Hope some of the Natural Point devs can figure out what is happening, as I am stumped.

I just received Trackir 5 and with Trackclip Pro and low and behold I am having exactly the same problem. I spoke to NaturalPoint a day after receiving it and they suggested I plug the USB's separately and also not in my USB hub. That seemed to help for a day but since, one flight its smooth, the next its not... Also closed all the blinds, and even covered the tv with a blanket thinking it may be reflecting on the camera.

One thing I notice also is when I am having a session where it is choppy, then x out of the program, it lags and doesn't want to shut down. It sounds to me to be a Windows 7 compatibility issue. I look forward to hearing about a fix.

Thanks,
Mike

Have you all made sure that you are runing each application at the same permission level (try right clicking on the exe for each, and selecting run as admin?

Latest video card drivers installed?

Running the TrackIR software minimized?

Any other applications running down by the clock, on the taskbar?

With FSX, do you have SP1/SP2 installed?

Are you running the DirectX 10 preview, within FSX?
I posted +/- about the same problem in the TrackIR 4 forum. I'm running a TrackIR 4 on TIR5 software and have the same problem in FSX (SP2 but no Acceleration) and Windows 7 64-bit.
Sometimes i have immense stutter and sometimes it's smooth. When it happens, it's first noticable when you turn your head and the view doesn't follow.
Another issue i have is that upon entering any game, i have to reset the viewpoint everytime i enter although the view in the TrackIR software is centered.
I'm having the exact same problem : Track IR4, Win7 x64, and I experience stutters (but not every time). For me though it's with Rise of Flight and IL2 1946. With both version (4 and 5) of the TiR software.

Tried, no change

Yes

Yes

Even whithout them, no change.

I have the same problem with other games, as stated above, so it doesn't seem to be game related
I also tried changing the cpu priority, attributing only one core of the cpu to the software, running it with Win XP SP2 and SP3 compatibility, changing the USB port, plugging the track ir and the track clip independently. None of these things helped.

Some more information, in the hope that it might help : I noticed, while I was testing different things, that the stutters and "jerkiness" are present in the software, even before running any games. With the version 4 of the software the status bar (at the bottom) changes very rapidly between "Detected" and "No device". It's like the software loses and reacquires the signal several time in the same second. That seems to be where the problem come from. And it's not caused by light interference : at night, with my door closed, and the light turned off, same thing (the only light emitted is the one from my screen, but turning it off won't help much... :D). And getting closer doesn't help either (I remember losing the signal of the track clip with v4 of the TiR software, but that's not what is happening here).

It does look like a compatibility problem between Windows 7 and the track IR software.
