Battlefield - Bad Company 2

Post by TreeFrog »

I just purchased TrackIR (amazing - although no good with my headset so had to spend another 40 for Pro).

I know that 2142 and BF2 eventually supported TIR,
Any news on Bad Company 2?

Would be amazing to have it supported for vehicles. I used twitter to contact Demize at Dice and got this reply:

Demize99 @nat_treefrog I doubt we will support TrackIR, though
feel free to petition them to contact us!

Hey TreeFrog. Actually, TrackIR was never supported in either BF2 or 2142. We worked very hard with DICE to make it happen, but there ended up being some restrictions in their codebase that tripped things up. I know that some users do shoehorn TrackIR into both titles by using mouse emulation mode, but this is not official support, and it definitely doesn't have the same functionality.

Regarding BC2, we have been in pretty regular contact with several high-up DICE execs, and the response has been pretty positive. They seem to really like the tech, and I believe that they do see value in adding it to their games. But, at least with BC2 in particular, I get the impression that their development team has been very hard-pressed to find time for anything outside of the core game itself. One of the producers told me that TrackIR support is possible, but not guaranteed.

We're really looking forward to BF3 as the likeliest title for TrackIR support, but we all do agree that BC2 would be fantastic! If the TrackIR community continues to contact DICE with requests for support, it can only help the cause. So, keep up the good work!

Well thanks very much for the prompt response - I read that Natural Point have excellent support for the community and already I feel much happier about my investment.

I will start an online petition and try to gain support within TrackIR community and the Bad Company 2 community and hopefully I can then present that to one of the Devs at Dice.

From my experience within BC2 I would imagine their development team is swamped - considering that the Nvidia drivers (which hugely improved the framerate) were pulled the day after launch for overheating and the online community is struggling with hundreds of issues they presumably have many other priorities at this point but none the less I think rallying some support is the way to go for now.

Thanks,

I have posted in both UK and US BC2 forums and my Clan's pages about the petition but support is hard to come by. Are there any other places you recommend I post?
