Down Sizing Capture space

Post by hollow4d »

Hello,

Currently I have a 20 x 20 space set up in a square grid. I have 12 r2 cameras. The top cameras are at 10 feet and the mid cameras are around 7 and 1/2 feet. I may have to move into a smaller area where I will only have around 14 1/2 x 14 1/2 with 8 feet of height. Is this going to work with a 12 camera set up? will I still be able to keep it in the square grid config or will I have to go to the circle config.

Thanks

Hi hollow4d

I believe you should still have no issues with the square grid config, you will have to play around a bit with camera placement to get the best capture volume, but you might still get 8x8 or so..., especially if you are using a 3 wand calibration...

Thanks Bryan,

In regards to camera placement with Arena 1.7 and the 3 point wand, do the cameras have to be in a perfect square or can you go more rectangle now.

Also what is the preferred orientation for the cameras, Landscape or Portrait? or is it still the same as before, top cams portrait and mid cams landscape?

Thank you for your help.

Hey Dave

To be honest with you, you can set the cameras in whatever configuration meets your needs, you don't have to stick to a square or circular config. Mine are in more of a rectangular setup. (they are setup in my garage). Set them up landscape or portrait depending on the coverage you need. I have mine setup with the lower ones in portrait and the top ones in landscape.. gives me relatively good coverage in my space..

This system is really flexible, and can accomodate just about any configuration as long as your cameras overlap somewhat in view...
experiment with your setup and don't be afraid to change it depending on your capture needs (for example, bringing your lower cameras almost to the floor, etc)

cheers!

Hey Bryan,

Good to know.

How many cams are you using and what is the space in your garage, height Length etc.

Also are you able to do a two person capture?

I really appreciate your input, it helps a lot.

Thanks

Hey Dave

I only have 8 cameras, and my garage is about 18x18 or so, height is about 9 feet.. I only do 1 person captures right now, and I have the original r1's (I was one of the original alpha/beta testers)

I have setup in smaller spaces than you have though, when I've taken the system to tradeshows... I think the smallest I've done while still being able to capture something was about 12x12 or so... didn't give me much room to do anything but stand around and dance in place, ok for demoing but not much more!

Glad to help and you're welcome!

Hello Hollow4d -

It should work with that space, you'll have to experiment with your exact placement and angling of the cameras to achieve the capture volume you're looking for. If you're running into issues, please feel free to post a diagram of your setup for review.

Thanks
