Avira false positive: TIRviews.dll

Post by NaturalPoint - Mike »

I have received a number of submissions from people over the last few days about Avira Antivirus detecting a component of the TrackIR software, in particular TIRviews.dll, to be infected with Dropper.Gen2.

I submitted the file to Avira, and their result was that it was detected as a False Positive. Versions of their database beyond 7.11.4.125 will detect this file properly. If you happen to run Avira, and this detects as a false positive, ignore, update your AV database, and rescan.

Below is a cut and paste of the information from Avira:

A listing of files alongside their results can be found below:

File ID Filename Size (Byte) Result
26068820 TIRViews.dll 107 KB FALSE POSITIVE

Please find a detailed report concerning each individual sample below:

Filename Result
TIRViews.dll FALSE POSITIVE

The file 'TIRViews.dll' has been determined to be 'FALSE POSITIVE'. In particular this means that this file is not malicious but a false alarm. Detection is removed from our virus definition file (VDF) with the version: 7.11.4.125.
