I'm a TrackIR 4 user trying to run the TrackIr 5 software.
I recently installed an ATI Radeon HD 6950 VGA card and every time I boot up my OS the TIR5 software is not responding properly. I shut it down and attempt to launch it again and it IMMEDIATELY crashes and gives a "encountered an error" Windows dialogue box.
I've tried reinstalling multiple times. I've also tried running in Windows 2000 compatibility mode.
Specs:
MSi DKA790GX Platinum mainboard
AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 Ghz)
4GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 Mhz memory
MSi Radeon HD 6950
eVGA NVIDIA 9800GT
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
700W PC Power & Cooling PSU

Re: Crash on start
What version of Windows are you using?
Are you trying to run TrackIR on the monitor being run by the ATI card or the Nvidia card?

Re: Crash on start
Hey - I'm having what may be a related problem, and the unifying factor is the ATI 6950 running with a TrackIR IV and the TrackIR V software.
What's happening - when I try to run Aces High, it crashes. It crashes every time, but it will run much, MUCH longer if I don't show the trackclip to the TrackIR camera. On XP64 It usually crashes within seconds of the TrackIR seeing the trackclip. It's taken me quite a while to track this down (this is a brand-new system, so it could have been anything).
I'm running...
2600K 4 core
Asus P8P67 at 3.4Ghz w 8 gigs running at 1600Mhz (stock)
ATI 6950 graphics card
XP64 SP2 fully updated
All drivers, etc. are fully updated.
I've verified there's no overheat issue on the CPU or graphics card. I've tried using different USB ports for TrackIR and my G940 joystick system
I've borrowed and installed Windows 7 in case it was OS related, but it wasn't. However it does crash faster under XP than it did under Windows 7. Win 7 would give me up to 10 minutes with the trackclip before the crash.
Thoughts?

Re: Crash on start
Try editing your settings.xml file to add the following line:
1
This will turn off OpenGL in the TrackIR application, which has been found to cause crashes with ATI Radeon HD cards on Windows XP (and various issues with Vista/7) due to Radeon OpenGL issues. It would also help to post the event log information relating to the crash.
