It is not so hard to make it work with mouse emulation in BF3, the biggest problem is that you need to hold a key to make free look work. That key disables all your controls leaving you dead in the air when looking around, also when using a joystick.
This should be fixed to make it possible, not only for TrackIR users but everyone using a joystick and wanting to look around while flying.

In a response to games supported, I think it is going OK but not perfect, games should support TrackIR more often since it is a great add-on to get an extra sense of immersion. I really hope it will get more to the casual games, now it is mostly a sim add-on. It is great that codemasters supports TrackIR so well and I think EA and DICE should follow. If they would with BF3 they can use that also for Need for speed the run since it is on the same engine.

To conclude, please ask the developers for support here,

Our general recommendation for the developers of BF3 is to go to them directly, either on their forums or email.

In the mean time, we're experimenting diligently to find appropriate workarounds. Any user input would be great if you find a working way.

Great work guys, I have a shedload of expensive tech in my gaming room, but none so valued as my TrackIR 5. If only the world knew how much it can open your games wide up.

I'd like to point out that this sort of thing could be easily resolved with better emulation options from the software. I absolutely love the hardware, and the way the software performs when the API/game is supported.

But I think its ridiculous that it cannot simply emulate for example joystick Axis, or key binds, or hats. any of those 3 options would allow us to work around BF3, and a huge majority of legacy games. The software for whatever reason constricts its usefulness by clinging to their (proprietary?) API, in the end it just hurts us. When a company representative has to come on and say "were looking for a workaround" the software is too weak.

Fortunately their are 3rd party programs that can do this, thankfully someone who knows how to program got fed up with it.

Hi Krinje,

The challenge here is that emulation doesn't accomplish the same thing in many cases as actual TrackIR support, because many/most games don't enable the separation of view control and aiming/maneuvering. Like Battlefield 3. In order to get the actual functionality that intended TrackIR usage enables, the TrackIR API is nearly always a necessary component.

Additionally, there is a 3rd party utility released by a fellow TrackIR user that assists in mapping TrackIR to joystick commands:

Yeah, but in the case of BF3, all they would need to do for *simple/limited* compatibility is remove the need to hold a FreeLook key and to enable controls while looking around. The head movement programming is already there. They just need to free it up. That way we could at least use mouse emulation to look around in vehicles. This would be awesome, even if it's not full 6DOF.

You guys need to lobby EA/DICE to implement this. You're a company and establish a dialog much more readily than individual players of the game.

Please do this guys! :)

We definitely have been doing this for years, and will continue to until TrackIR is supported. :)

One small update--DICE is doing their final evaluation of our system, to determine if integration is doable for them technically. Their CTO is currently investigating the receptiveness of their engine with regards to head tracking. I'm awaiting his response.

If they supported this I might actually reinstall it. Only to probably unistall it again because they were to retarded to include simple squad voip (a system they have had in both BF2 and in BC2)

Hope they get back to you soon Seth!
