I received the TrackIR5 for Christmas and had been working wonderfully up until today. Now when I turn on the software, the IR jumps all over the place, stutters, and the left green light comes on and off. I have played with my background lighting and uninstalled/re-installed the software. Still no luck and same issue persists.
It appears that the hardware is malfunctioning. Love the product, but would love some help.
OS: Windows 7 64 bit

Exactly the same strange behaviour here.
Couple weeks ago, the Tir 5 troubles starts after 2 years that everything was ok.
I've tried many different solutions but non success. I thought that windows registry was corrupted despite all the other devices and software are perfectly ok. Now I'm doing the data back up to reinstall windows and simulators...
I hope that the problem isn't the Tir. I've many hours to spent to reinstall all: I really don't want to discover after that the problem is the Tir.
Win 7 64, FSX, FS9 and a ton of other app and data...

Try going to the TIR software, right click the main window, go camera view and see if there's any Infrared light showing to the camera that could be interfering with it, i know even with my blinds closed on a sunny day IR light sometimes screws with it.
And are you using a Trackclip pro or the hat reflector?

Camera view shows some red elements, but green also and jumps all over the place in a chaotic mode. Sometimes stops, sometimes jumps, sometimes stutters, sometimes tracks in a sort of frame by frame mode, sometimes simply does nothing.

I would like to understand if is the time to reinstall windows and apps, or if is the Tir camera that's dead.
Same position of Tir and pc monitor of last 2 years where I haven't had lights (day & night) or strange behaviour troubles.
I've the bundle hat reflector.

A few of us are having issues just recently with the TIR 5 - Look for post Broken Camera? a few threads below this one, and see if there are any similarities to what you are experiencing here.
Mine is acting up as well after two years of no problems. Very similar problems to what is being described in this topic.
Just FYI. My problems started shortly after installing Version 5.2.1 - Final. More than likely this software update is not the issue, but I thought I'd throw it out there as a shot in the dark.

after a complete format and clean reinstall of Win 7 64 the problem remains the same.
I've tried to install my Tir in a friend Win Xp 32 Pc with same results also.
At this point I think that my Tir is simply dead after two years.
I've read other users with troubles or similar behaviour after two years more or less.
May be a prodution stock failure, I don't know...
In my Country the Tir is really expensive: from 150 to 180 Euros.
I'll try "Free track" before to consider to buy another Tir.
I've lost a lot of time to try to understand which can be the trouble and finally I have to reinstall Win and all my apps and data, obviously I'm not happy.
