TrackIR Crashing on Startup
Re: TrackIR Crashing on Startup
Hi Folks,
Just trying to help and throwing my 2 cents in: I have an ATI Radeon HD 7850 and run it overclocked by Saphire TRIXX. I also have CCC 12.11 beta package and an OC'd i7 2600k to 5GHz all on a Asrock Z77 Extreme4 mobo.
However, I also run an independent graphics adjustment program called Radeon Pro that is not an ATI/AMD product as I said.
Now I'm telling you all this because in my search and trial of several different kinds of Graphics OC and Control software, I ran into at least one where it would apply Triple Buffering 'as needed' automatically if set to do so.
The details are sketchy and I can't remember the software name/names because it's been a good 4 or 5 months ago but if it wasn't the actual Triple Buffering it was automatically applying, it was described as 'similar' to Triple Buffering.
You may have a software of that kind or not, I don't know, but am just suggesting that as a possibility. It would certainly explain the intermittent problems. I only wish I could remember the software name or names that had this option.
Perhaps if you were to turn off all of your graphic card related software to check and see if the problem still occurs, it may help you focus in on the perpetrator?
For what it's worth, Rich

Re: TrackIR Crashing on Startup
We have put out version 5.2.2 of TrackIR that seems to have taken care of the ATI/AMD video card issues for every user that has tried it so far. I think this intermittent startup issue is related to something else, and we are still investigating it.

Re: TrackIR Crashing on Startup
I've recently developed this issue as well after a system restore. Update nvidia drivers, disabled triple buffering, uninstalled and reinstalled TIR software a dozen times, tried every USB port on my machine, tried renaming TIRViews.dll, all to no avail. The version 4 software works but I hate using it with every fiber of my being and would much prefer version 5 to function.
Edit to add: TrackIR 4 doesn't actually work in any games but it properly tracks on the displays in the software.

Hailthefish,
I'd like to do a remote support session to take a look at this. You can download the app from the TrackIR website at: http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06-support/contact/
I'm available 9am-5pm PST (UTC-8), Monday-Friday.

Re: TrackIR Crashing on Startup
Suspect it was a driver issue, as I ended up needing to reinstall Windows for a (presumably) unconnected issue and it now works again like a charm.

Bummer about having to reinstall Windows, but glad to hear it's working!
Can you try renaming the TIRViews.dll and see if it still crashes on start up?
Sorry for being away so long; honestly I didn't think that there was going to be much more discussion about this. Boy was I wrong!
I can say that the TIRViews.dll seems to have been the culprit. I had not re-installed my FSX at the time of the original posting, and after renaming this library, the crashes stopped. Recently, I had to re-install Windows( again ), and after installing the software, the crashes began; I renamed the .DLL and they stopped.
Last week, I decided to re-installed my FSX, named the DLL back to it's original name, and still have had no crashes. I understand from a couple posts back in this thread, that, that particular DLL is responsible for 'injecting' the views into FSX?
Would it be possible for the developers to create some sort of 'check' - possibly via registry - for the install of FSX, and upon the result either 'inject the views' or end execution? That may cut down the amount of crashes for users, as recompiling a new DLL is a lot simpler and quicker( in theory ) than compiling the whole program. That way a simple update could be implemented; i.e. a quick download of the new DLL?
Hope that helps!

Re: TrackIR Crashing on Startup
thx for this post
I have also been suffering from TrackIR crashing on startup. Fault - BEX. I have had this problem with all the 5.2 releases.
The problem is solved by following the advice in this thread, by renaming the TIRViews.dll. Sorted.
Just one question is will trackIR work normally without that .dll??

Re: TrackIR Crashing on Startup
Same Problem here.
Was able to start TRackIR5 software several times (after switching off triple buffering) and everything went well.
Then unfortunately? I put a TrackIR4 profile into the profiles folder of TrackIR5. Fired up TrackIR5 and *bump* was no longer able to start the software.
Removed the TrackIR4 Profile. Same problem.
Renamed the .dll and was able to start the software. Used TrackIR2 and TrackIR4 for years, never had a problem. TrackIR5 to me seems a bit of a step back in a certain way... ;-(
