What maximum radius trackir5 detects us?

Hello. I want to buy this device. I have a 23 inch computer screen that I will use to play with trackir5. But, I also have a 40 inch TV that I want to try out playing with this device (wireless keyboard, and a joystick). Will Trackir detect my head from 1-1.5 meters? (should I buy the pro clip to improve detection if I intend using this device from such distance?)

Hello Zeev,

We recommend between 2-5 feet (61cm-152cm) for optimal use. I believe that it will work with your setup (100cm-150cm) and I would definitely recommend using the TrackClip PRO for this. The TrackClip PRO would help you because it has active LEDs for precise tracking, and it allows you to turn up the light threshold to eliminate IR interference.

There is a way to place the camera behind you and invert the tracking as well. I know that this has been the better option for people gaming on larger screens, but it all depends on your setup. If you need any help adjusting the settings, please let me know.

With the growing HTPC market ,with people increasingly using large monitors ( I use a 55" 1080p LED TV) while sitting in their lounge chair with keyboard/mouse or even xbox controller , I expect there will be more people wanting to use your Track IR5 at an increased distance. I have just purchased a Track IR5 with Pro Clip and its on its way,so I was a little disappointed to read that the distance is as short as it is . I guess I will attempt the 'extended arm' or placing the camera behind me ,solution.

I have just purchased a Track IR5 with ProClip and intend to use it on my 55" 1080p LED TV with a distance of about 5 feet or a bit more,while I sit in my lounge chair with keyboard/mouse/xbox controller. I am a little disappointed to read the distance required is shorter than what I expected. With the growing increase of HTPC ,Steam Box in the near future, I expect there will be a growing need for a greater distance than 150cm from camera. I will attempt to use the solution you suggest of mounting a camera behind me or a a swinging extended arm ,mounted behind the TV for the camera.
