TrackIR tracking crashes and restarts randomly

Hello.
I've recently bought trackir to use while playing Elite Dangerous. However, both in and out of game I randomly hear the windows chime that tells me that a device has been removed, then the chime saying a device has been found. Between these two chimes head tracking is inactive and the left hand LED goes out. After the second chime, the left LED lights up, and the view center resets to where I'm looking. I then have to manually reset the viewpoint which is getting annoying and breaks immersion in game. The crashes do seem more frequent in-game.

I have checked that triple buffering is off.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 in SLI
I'm using the Trackclip

Any advice would be appreciated.

Does this happen in all USB ports? Are you using USB 2.0 or 3.0? Are your motherboard drivers up to date, including BIOS? Would you please list your system specs?
