Hi Dan,

The cockpit view from the TrackIR video is a custom setting by the user. The really great thing about ISI is they give the user a lot of control over game customisation. In F1 Challenge, the way to modify the view is as follows:

Open the file 'default.cfg' with notepad. This can be found in your F1 Challenge 99-02/Saves folder.

Scroll down and find:

LocalCam=COCKPIT
{
Fov=(75.000000, 62.500000)
Clear=TRUE
Color=(164, 218, 249)
ClipPlanes=(0.225000, 500.000000)
LODMultiplier=(1.000000)
MipmapLODBias=(-1.500000)
Size=(1.000000, 1.000000)
Center=(0.500000, 0.500000)
Flags1=(0)
Flags2=(0)
RadiusLimits=(0.000000, 0.000000)
OrientationRate=(35.000000, 35.000000, 25.000000)
PositionOffset=(0.000000, -0.028500, -0.0100000) \\(Left-Right, Up-Down, Back,Forward)
OrientationOffset=(-0.030000, 0.000000, 0.000000)
Radius=(0.000000)
}

The two important lines for altering the view are 1) 'Fov' and 2) 'PositionOffset'.

'Fov' stand for "Field of View" and must be thought of as how wide an angle the view point is. The first number (0.750000 in the stock game) is the horizontal angle and that is the one you should adjust. It's important to note that wider views (higher numbers) make the 3-D effects of the cockpit more pronounced. As a side effect narrowing or widening the view appears to push you "closer" or "further" from the steering wheel. HOWEVER, the "Fov" value should be selected based on the amount of cockpit 3-D effect you want while looking around with the TrackIR and NOT your distance to or from the steering wheel!

"PositionOffset" is the value you should adjust to move closer or further from the steering wheel. The third set of numbers (-0.0100000 in the stock game) moves you foward or backwards. Higher negative numbers will move you closer to the wheel (like changing the stock value to -0.0500000).

You can also use the second PositionOffset value (-0.028500 in the stock game) to move your view lower into the cockpit. Increasing the negative value lowers your view.

Using the TrackIR allows you to move your view closer to the steering wheel (as you would be in reality) while still being able to look at the mirrors when needed. TrackIR v4.0 software recognizes the F1 Challenge EXE automatically, so it will work with any mod based off of that EXE (which is every mod made for F1 Challenge).

Since it's tracking your head movement, if you adjust in your chair, your view will shift a bit. But this is really a non-issue and it becomes quite natural to simply "look forward" as you would in real life.

TX for the quick reply and big TX for the setup guide I printed the whole thing and put it in a binder. I just hope this will work with all the up coming and current mods like Scc and f1 75. Did you try it with any other mod?

Big TX Again

Glad you liked the set-up guide. It's gong on three years and still going (I wrote it around F1 2002).

Yes, I've tried it with SCC and it works fine.

f1c cockpit view

Post by minecast »

I notice in the f1c video that the cockpit view is ratter close to the steering wheel I was wondering if this is a personal setting of the user in the video or if it is a setting that can be modified without it affecting the trackIR. I like to customize my setting position in f1c and it's a lot further back I can at least see the mirrors in my default view.

Does trackIR work with all the mods or at least rh2004 or f1 1975, scc...

Also what would happened when playing if due to some uncomfort I move a little down or to the side on my chair would the system have to be readjusted because my head level might be a bit lower or will it compensate a little.

TX in advance, Im very much considering purchasing this product I would appreciate some viewer feedback on the issues or rather I should say my questions.

Danalot of the mods of F1C alow you to ajust the seating position from their start menu or assignment of keys in the control panel. Like SCC.
