Individual finger tracking markerset with passive trackers

Post by plushTrack »

Hello,

Is it possible for Motive to individually drive fingers with passive markers?

The current finger markerset for passive markers supports partial marker placement on fingers,

and extrapolates other fingers' movement, not yielding accurate motion for each fingers.

I had to use full body markerset without fingers and then

just put more markers on fingers and record them as unlabeled markers.

It is considerably harder to post-process noise, and impossible to make bvh

because there is no hierarchy for this approach.

Hello plushTrack,

Thanks for sharing your finger tracking question with the community.

Unfortunately, we do not currently have a solution for tracking individual fingers with passive markers. The approach you have been taking would be the recommended, and does require a lot of manual labeling.

We have solutions that allow for detailed finger tracking using our active markers, and soon in conjunction with Manus VR gloves. We will also be releasing a very improved skeleton solver, so perhaps passive marker finger tracking might be available in the future.

Best,
Steven

Hello,

Have there been any updates to this at all? We would love a passive marker solution added even if it was a tool and patch update. Another question I have is if NatNet is another solution where we could create a custom marketset specifically for fingers and head tracking?

Thanks in advance!

In reality, there isn't a way for motive to differentiate between the fingers, especially when they're close. Individual passive markers don't seem likely. I've build some active marker gloves for this very reason. I hear Manus gloves are good, but the price is way up there. You can get great results for about $600 in materials.
