I have spent the last 10 years moving further and further away from Microsoft. My daily driver has been a linux distro for the last 8 years. I recently purchased trackir without researching the linux issue deep enough. I assumed linuxtrack, opentrack, or even wine would handle any issues that may pop up.

We all know how wrong I was when it comes to Trackir..... I have every major flightsim as old as 1942 pacific fighters, janes longbow 2, Mig alley, falcon 4, il2, up through DCS etc, on Linux. Trackir is an amazing enhancement . It is VERY VERY sad that I had to install a copy of, gulp, windows 10 to get it working...

My dream was to have trackir work on all the modern flight sims and then use something like a linux version of freepie, vjoy, opentrack to control my old joystick hat or mouse on my computer.... Imagine Mechwarrior 2 with trackir running your mouse in linux!

Please add a linux driver, with the advent of Steam Deck and Proton it would be prudent to push this development. There are a lot of linux users interested in your device but are having to look for different solutions due to the lack of support.

If you could pass along this fact to the Sales and Marketing Team they may apply a little more pressure to development. As a typical Linux gamer "If I would have researched trackir linux support more thoroughly (for modern Distros) I would have found that there is no supported Linux Driver and I would have simply had gone elsewhere. I would have looked to a company that is more open to Open development."

Please keep in mind that AMD and NVIDIA both swim in the Linux world....

Plus one to linux support.
With recall existing on windows, it cant be trusted to be used, and I have left the platform for linux, even for flightsims now.

I really want to see linux support for trackir, even if it is a compiled binary (though I suspect you IP is well and truly out there now). Some of the linux solutions (like opentrack) refuse to support your hardware (costing you money!) because they are afraid you will attack them for it like once was done for Freetrack. That's free software development for you, and all you have to do is assure them you will not take them down over helping your customers have a better experience. (That makes you money!)

Unfortunately, without reasonable support for us linux users I am likely to just sell my TIR5 second-hand and buy something else, as its just a paperweight to me, and I know several of my friends are also looking at switching(some of which just entering the hobby now, without headtracking yet)


Please, either give us an official support of trackir on linux, or, provide assurances to people wanting to support your hardware with their software that you will not go after them for it.

7 months after I purchased I have switched, permanently, to Linux. Wish I had known the TrackIR5 did not support Linux when I bought it, I would have never of purchased it, all my sim friends now know the mistake I made.

Considering how small the sim community is, angering a very large and rapidly growing community is bad business.

I made an account to offer my vote on linux. I know you already said there is a definite yes to a linux version soon, but linux is now a viable gaming platform unlike it was a long time ago. Im hoping more companies are aware that over the next few years you may see more linux users than windows users.

I am sorely disappointed with the state of software support for a relatively pricy product and legal hostility towards the open source community.

In a world where major companies like valve are pouring immense effort into making gaming on Linux possible, having no option to use the hardware with first party support from its developers is a spit in the face.
