Tips on how to create a custom marker set

Post by bolottasamuele »

Hey! For my project, I need to create a marker set where actually two markers are crucial: one at the very top of the hip, one at the very top of the knee. The position differs a bit from the one in the default marker set. Since this is my first time, my question is: does anybody have any tips, guidelines or opinions on how I should do this?

Important: for this specific project, I actually care only about the spatial position of those two markers. I don't care about the reconstruction of the skeleton. So I was also wondering: say I use the conventional marker set. But instead of placing those markers where the marker set expects them to be, I place them where I need (which is not that far anyway). Isn't this going to give me the spatial position I want anyway?

Thanks!

I am not sure but I think that to create a custom marker set in OptiTrack Motive, you can use the conventional marker set and reposition the markers at the top of the hip and knee as needed. Ensure the markers are easily identifiable by the cameras and ideally not too far apart to maintain tracking accuracy. Then, you can can perform calibration and testing to verify proper tracking and adjust the marker sizes as necessary.
