Re: 'Status: No Data' hassles !
Apologies for the delay in this !
Anyway...
Uninstalled the software, and removed the tir from the usb port
Had a look at the Enum\usb tree and did a search. It found one reference, but when I tried to delete it, up popped the error saying 'unable to delete key'. As i'm logged in with admin rights, I found this quite 'interesting'. It's like something is locking that branch, despite the hardware not being plugged in.
On I went..
Reinstalled version 4 of the software. Rebooted (just incase...)
Running 'driverquery' listed NPUSB as being active in the kernel with a link date of 03/01/2005 17:00:33 (UK date format..)
Plugged the TIR in.
Windows found it, and installed the hardware.
I can confirm that it picked up the driver from the system32 directory.
Launched the software up, and exactly the same thing as before.
Closed it down, and swapped the TIR into a different port.
Windows finds new hardware, and installs the driver once more from system32.
So, launch software, and again back to the initial problem of 'Status: No Data'
Checked back into the registry to see what was going on - I now have two references of 'NaturalPoint'. I'm not entirely sure what key references which USB port, but I guess its all correct.
Anyway, there you go. Thats my recent findings !
I hope this is of some use. I'm going to be 'out of town' for the next 5 days (off to Ohio), but i'll be checking for any reply notifications !
Thanks so far.
Martin

Re: 'Status: No Data' hassles !
Marty,
Send me your setupapi.log file especially from the last few installs that you did.
If there is a registry file that can not be delated, this is most likely a result of you connecting to different USB ports, we can soon get rid of these, but let me take a look at your Setupapi first.

I only have two more ideas (which probably won't help)
1) Have you tried loading the software on another machine? A buddies or another one at home? Same issue?
2) Have you updated to all of the latest and greatest patches from Microsoft? Very doubtful this is an issue... but you never know...
If none of this works... I suggest going up to the store... purchase a 4 pack of my favorite beer, Guiness, pour a glass... and then start the RMA process... sadly... :'(
Let me know... and if it does come to getting a new one... I would like to hear your input once you get a working one...
Best of luck -
Duke

Re: 'Status: No Data' hassles !
After everything you have tried Marty, here is an idea, might sound dumb but here goes (I had a simular problem once with another USB device.) You might need your XP disk (I take it to being XP)
Go into Device Manager and uninstall/delete all of the USB's that you see.
Reboot your PC.
XP will then rebuild the USB tree. (there should be a few found new hardware beeps.)
My fingers are crossed for you.

Re: 'Status: No Data' hassles !
Wayne - the setupapi.log file should be with you in the next couple of days (out of town/country etc). I guess it should be sent to support@naturalpoint.com marked attention wayne
Duke - Same machine. Another friend had problems with version 4 of the software as soon as he installed the vector addon pack. He had to revert to version 3 in order to get it working, but unfortunately he couldn't provide me with any guidelines after his mamouth task of getting his setup working !
Barred - Thanks, i'll give that a go. The machine is running all of the latest MS patches, but at the moment i'm suspecting some usb weirdness, due to the fact that FSUIPC under FS9 doesn't see any of my attached joysticks/yokes in order to be able to map button pushes.
When I get back to my PC, i'll do some tests and let you know.
Thanks so far,
Martin

Martin,
No problem...
You can either send it to wayne@ or support@naturalpoint, they will both come directly to myself, then we can work out the best way to get you up and running.

Barred - Followed the advice, but nothing worked. Even tried the new .22 version drivers.
Wayne - You have mail !
Thanks again,
Martin

Re: 'Status: No Data' hassles !
G'day Gents,
Sorry I dropped off this topic however I had relatives visiting from interstate & work commitments were keeping me from spending much time on the computer. Anyway the only thing I had time to try was plugging the unit into a separate USB input as suggested. This resulted in Windows setting up another USB connection for the TrackIR which did not solve the problem & I still had to do the unplug/replug thing to get it to work.
Since then however I have had a couple of hardware changes & at present the problem is no longer present. During the week I started getting blue screens with WinXP shutting down. After several of these I suspected a second stick of ram I recently installed into the machine. On opening the case I discovered that two of the lugs holding down the heat sink on the Northbridge Controller had pulled free from the board & subsequently th heat sink was hanging off the chip. I suspected this was the reason for the blue screens (overheating of the chip) so installed another motherboard. As it turned out one of my ram sticks had fallen over & was the reason for the blue screens but since installing the new board my TrackIR works every time.
I changed the board on Wednesday night & so far no problems with WinXP (no re-install) or the TrackIR. The unit did work OK for the first few days I had it at Xmas so I'm still not confident that the problem will not return however I did believe the problem was always with my hardware/ WinXP & not the TrackIR.
Will keep you posted as to how it goes. If I can give you any further info let me know & I'll be more than happy to oblige.
Regards,
Ross

Re: 'Status: No Data' hassles !
Quick update.
Tried installing version .22 and the TIR onto a friend's winxp home sp2 machine.
No joy - same issue cropped up with the 'Status: No Data' message.
I guess this points more to a hardware issue now, rather than a local machine problem (unless both of the machines have the same issues..)
Ta,
Martin
