TrackIR axies seem to get stuck
Re: TrackIR axies seem to get stuck
What do you see onthe tracking screen, when this occurs?
Are you running any other software?
What version of Windows are you using?
Using the TrackClip Pro, or TrackClip?
Using the hotkey for recentering resolve the issue?

Re: TrackIR axies seem to get stuck
I think I solved the stuck yaw axis (at least for me).
I went into the tracking preview window, settings, and cranked Light Filtering up to 200.
I think what was happening was that when the head angles are extreme it picked up another reflective source (in my case probably my glasses). That confuses the software no end and results in a locked yaw axis which can only be corrected with a F12.
For the record I had:
- tried two revs of TrackIR SW
- Windows Vista Premium
- tried TrackClip Pro and Vector (which suprised me since you obviously get strong tracking with a Pro)
- It was easy to recreate for me by looking right and downward = locked y axis even though I was still centered on tracking screen and three green dots.
-Happened a lot with Black Shark because you're often looking down at all those damn switches!
Anyway hope it helps other people having to F12 a lot. Try popping the Light Filtering up.

Spoke too soon. Seems that light filtering wasn't the fix.
And it's pitch that tends to get pegged to the right. I can recover by looking at the ceiling instead of hitting F12.
Sounds like I need to play around with acceleration curves more.

OK, I think I got it solved. If you are going to looking downward a lot in the sim (like in Black Shark) you have to be very careful where you mount the Track IR and the angle of your TrackIR hat (or proclip). For a good discussion see this very old discussion:

I rigged it up so the trackIR sat another foot behind my monitor and keep the brim of my hat pointed upward a bit. The reason that the light filtering worked a bit is because it replicates in some ways moving the camera back.
I'm a bit disappointed that the TrackIR 4 didn't improve the close distance issue from the TrackIR 3. Well, maybe with TrackIR 5?

Re: TrackIR axies seem to get stuck
Same here in FSX. When I look down (in vector mode), it wants to go off to the left or right, then gets stuck somewhere.
Looking up at the ceiling sometimes straightens it out.
I'm in a dark media room about 22# from the source and my hat is dead even with the tracker.
Dot mode works fine - but is kind of lame for FS.
In head tracking, as I start looking down, it suddenly swings to the left and gets stuck.
Moving the receiver back isn't an option due to my setup. I hope that's not the real fix.
Keep us posted.

When looking at your tracking screen, what do you see here?
Re: TrackIR axies seem to get stuck
I have added a video of the axis getting stuck.

If you can't see the detail, I can e-mail the video direct.
Let me know after you've seen it and I'll take it down.

Re: TrackIR axies seem to get stuck
OK, it looks like the bottom objects are getting lost, which can cause it to get stuck as well -
At what height is the clip, in relation to the TrackIR camera?
How far away from thje camera are you located?

Re: TrackIR axies seem to get stuck
Similar thing happening to me. Only when I turn to the right it eventually gets stuck looking at the floor and only f-12 makes it responsive. In Il-2 I cannot look over my right shoulder without getting stuck. In the tracking window everything seems fine, but in the heads window the in-game head gets lost.
I am running Vista-64 ultimate sp1 with TrackIr 4.1 build 36 w/track clip pro. Camera is mounted on top of monitor around 24" away.

Camera on left side of monitor?
Camera about level with clip pro?
