The 'red' spot appears to move between the three primary reflectors in no particular order. At the same time the 3D view shows a very unstable image track.

Hi Rich,
It looks like you're wearing an original Track Hat, with the reflective tape on the front. Because of that, the TrackIR software is seeing 4 dots instead of 3, which confuses the calculations when it swaps between them trying to find the correct shape of the vector. You'll need to either switch hats or cover the reflective material on the brim with some opaque tape.

Hallo Vincent
If the TrackIR is not connected the error message appears too !
Yesterday evening I reinstalled the TrackIR 5 Software and for 1 hour it worked flawless with my 3 favourite games but then (meanwhile I cloesed down the TIR5-software) the error message appeared again. And now reinstalling the programm does not ameliorate the situation again: the error message appears every time I will start Trackir5

Your advice was spot on- new hat no issues at all and now works flawlessly. I now feel quite stupid. Should have thought of this solution myself.

Nothing different between last nights setup, and todays?

Unfortunately no.
I`m really sorryabout that because the TIR5 software works better wh my TIR5-Camera then its predecessor !

Do you have any OPenGL options enabled, with the video card software?

No. The only OpwnGl-feature I could activate (tripple buffering) is deactivated.
