Hi, I just returned from a turn-around flight ABE to BOS in my real time job and I was able to find another forum that could help me with some basic settings for FSX-Trackir.

Frankly. the real world is not so difficult as the trackir sim but maybe that is the FSX default settings.

The screen is still jumpy but at least I can look side to side, impossible to use the panels.

I am sorry if I wasted your time thinking that you might have some idea how to setup the Trackir 5 for FSX.

I had no idea when I purchased this add-on that it had such a complex set-up for using it in FSX.

When everything is functioning properly, TrackIR is an exceptionally turn-key device. It is possible to tweak to your heart's content, but you certainly shouldn't need to change anything at all out of the box in order to have it work acceptably. You should be able to install the software, plug the TrackIR in, start FSX, and be finished.

For some FSX users, in some circumstances, the default "center" that the FSX developers chose for a particular cockpit is not ideally located. In that case, you can edit the config file to move the center. This is not a TrackIR issue, though, but rather an FSX issue that happens to impact TrackIR. And, this is not something that most users need to adjust.

I would recommend using the exact settings you reported: Speed set at 1, Smooth set at 10, and the profile set as Default. Other than that, don't touch anything. If you're not having very smooth, responsive tracking, something is wrong, either with the hardware or the way you've set it up. Common setup issues would be:

- not positioning the camera so it is centered on your head (and, by association, the TrackClip)

- placing the camera in a location where sunlight is prominently in its view (like a window without shades, for instance)

Another problem, which it sounds like might be an issue for you: you need to be sure that your "Tracking Target" (in the Basic Settings section, next to Speed and Smooth) matches the TrackClip or TrackClip PRO, depending on what you're using. The selected clip type will be orange.

I'm glad to hear that some folks on another forum have helped you out to improve things a bit, but it sounds to me like your experience is still not as it should be. I'd like to get that corrected, so you have the ideal performance from your TrackIR. One thing that would help us diagnose any potential problems would be screenshots of your 3D View and Camera View, when you have the TrackClip in view and the behavior you've described is occurring. For reference, things in the Camera View should look like this:

Wow, thanks for the reply

I have made all of the recommended settings and it works sometimes a little; I have never spent so much time getting some add-on to work.

Yesterday it seemed to be ok if I didn't move my head, just the slightest movement made it go crazy.

Today nothing could stop the gyrations.

I think this gadget is hopeless, back in the box.

Does the TrackIR software, and in particular the Camera View, look exactly like the image I posted above when you're using it?

Can you take a screen shot and post it? That's really the only way for us to get a peek at what's going on. A video screen capture would be even better.
