One of the other beta testers, not myself, also had this problem. He solved it with a bios update if I am not mistaken. I will send him the link to this thread and maybe he can shed some more light on this. From talking with him, it appears that its an issue with Trackir and the Nforce4 chipset. As I stated above, the last he spoke of it, he updated his bios and it was running quite well.

Hope this helps.

As Sparx mentioned, I'm the other beta tester that had 1.1 USB problem with the nforce4 mobo; the good news is that I think I fixed my problem.

The major problem I had with my unit would be that it wouldn't post (start with the computer) about 33% of the time and it would take several cold boots to get it to finally fire-up again.

This is what I did to cure the problem.

1- First I uninstalled my TIR4 and it's componets from my computer.

2- I then manually removed the TIR "auto load" from my system regestriy with regedit. You can spot the TIR auto load in the system startup by looking for the only box that has a blank "Startup Item" name.

Note: I doubt that step 2 really has any baring on my fix, but it was part of my routine if you want to try it.

3- I downloaded the latest bios for my mobo and flashed it. I have an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe. I upgraded from the 1009 to the 1205 bios.

Note: I think this was the real fix.

4- Like Kevin said; I made sure to change my USB to "Full Speed" from the default "High Speed" in my system bios.

5- Re-installed TIR4.

Bingo........

No 1.1 warning.

The unit fires up instantly when I intiate the software as where before it would pause for a second or two.

No problems for 4 days now.

:-)

Another thing to check is to see in your Device Manager if TIR is getting enough juice from your mobo. Scroll down to the Unversial Serial Bus controllers/ USB Root Hub and click on the power tab. Your TIR unit should be pulling 286mA if it is working correctly.

I think there is a problem with nforce4 chip comunicating with TIR4. Hopefully a simple chipset driver update from your mobo manufacturer will cure the problem.

I hope this helps someone.

Regards,
MM

I took your advice and tried following the above example as closely as possible ( bearing in mind I have a different manufacturers mobo ) and updated the Bios etc to latest versions.

After scouring the Bios options the only USB device specific setting that could affect the speed of the USB bus was an option to either disable on board USB support completely, have it set to 1.1 or 1.1 + 2.0, which is what it was set to for USB 2.0 and to be backward compatible with USB 1.1 devices, and I still ge the same problems as before so if it is BIOS related then the current version of the DFi Bios for the Lanparty NF4 doesnt fix the issue.

Ill keep looking though as there may be a setting ive missed that does a similar job as setting it to full speed, it may even be the case that becasue there is no specific setting to allow ONLY USB 2.0 compatability that is causing the issue, as it always has to be eitehr off 1.1 only, or 1.1 and 2.0.

It has also been reported that a third party USB card usually fixes any issues.

The same thing is happening to me. I get the "plug it into a High-Speed port" message. I have an asus8N32-sli. I have bios version 1205 and I made sure that the usb was set to full speed and not high speed in the bios, via the instructions given above. However, my trackir4 is still giving this message. I really don't see why I should need to spend more money on a usb card, when this should work on any standard usb2.0 port on my motherboard. Any input or help would be appreciated.

1 - Make sure you are running the latest motherboard Bios updates

2 - Make sure you have your USB drivers updated to the the latest chipset version.

3 - Try an externally powered USB hub, or add-on USB card.

Is really worth to do that ?, in a previous mail you said there was no diference between USB 1.1 and USB 2.-
