Nope, it is not possible to use the TrackIR 4 either, as it is also only designed for Gaming applications.

The NaturalPoint line of products, that would work in your situation, is the SmartNAV.

i am using the trackir 2 and NaturalPoint_trackIR_3_13 software it is working very well thanNaturalPoint_SmartNAV_2_20_Beta_01. I don't like the NaturalPoint_SmartNAV_2_20_Beta_01

The TrackIR software (4.x.xx) is only designed for use with gaming applications. It doesn't have any fully functioning ability to be used on the system desktop.

There was the functionality of the older software to be used on the system desktop, as a mouse replacement. This ability was taken out of the newer software, as the hardware was designed to be used within games, not on the system desktop.

We designed the SmartNAV hardware, and software to be used on the system desktop. The newer SmartNAV software, is alot different than the older software, and has many more features than 2.20_beta

Some Informations for Gamers...

trackir 2 works under vista...!
you can read the information here in the forum about... how to works under x64 applications..
at first...
install software version 4.1.029-final
than install software trackIR 3_13
-> install it (attention..confirm at administrator)
-> connect your trackIR 2 at your usb port
-> start software... have fun

i use it with il-2 +pf.. runs well...

The 3.13 version of the software may work with the 32-bit version of Vista, but it is not a support OS.
