6 camera set-up question

Post by Redtie »

we are setting up a 6 camera set up with 6 tripods on a 16ft diameter circle. all 6 cameras are set-up at the same height and we don't see the lower part of the body nor the feet.

how many cameras and wich ones should we lower in order to capture the whole body?

should we use tripod heads that we can adjust with angles?

currently the cameras are set-up directly on tripod facing front, portrait position.

any help, advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello -

Most certainly. The cameras should be placed above the actors, angled downward. 8-10 feet is a good height for the cameras to be placed.

try that with all cameras upright,
- lower cams centred on the feet
- and upper cams centred on the waist on the actor.

DonBurroni,
I have not tried that 6 camera set up. Does this work better for you than the suggested 6 cameras at same height in a hexigonal position? Dont you lose capture volume with this set up?

you might gain volume because you will cover the feet markers with your camera coverage.

but you might get more occlusion due to less cams.

Or Try all the cameras on there sides, 9-10ft high, 16feet layout diameter all aimed with the actors waist in the centre of the cameras.

I'd probably suggest a 6 tripod circle in portrait (lens next to numbers, cameras sideways). Aim is critical to get a good volume. After calibrating, record some data and send a .pt2 file to support@naturalpoint.com for a quick volume check.
