Track IR with Large Screens

Post by SpyderPB6 »

Hello all.

First off sorry if this has been posted, I searched and couldn't find it. Link me if it does exist.

I have been using TIR5 now for some time and it has worked great from Arma to DCS. I have recently upgraded my main monitor to a large size, so much larger that it is was above even with my head, where the IR receiver would normal sit. If I set it on the top of the screen or the bottom I get a very limited range of motion.

I am using the track IR clip that came with the device, the cheap one. I am better off purchasing the better clip with the LED lights? Would that solve my problem?

Any suggestions?

Answered my own question....bend the top of the track clip back just slightly and it increase the ROM looking down, maintaining speed and smoothness settings, by about 40 degrees.

Bending the clip is not the best idea, as the software expects a specific positioning between the three markers. It's best to line the camera up with the clip, and if this is not possible, to tilt the entire clip back a bit. Bending a single marker can create incorrect results in tracking that become more pronounced as the bend increases.

I have a 73" screen that I sit 55 inches away from in a Playseat for iRacing. The trackir5 sits around 3 feet above my head. I have not been able to use it yet as I have windows 8 and am waiting for the drivers, but is this going to be an issue for me? There is no way I can place it in front of me level as far as I can tell because it would be in the center of my screen. I noticed the camera does angle downward though. Angling the camera down will not be good enough?

This extreme of a difference will be an issue. A 73" 16:9 TV will have a height of 35", so if the top is 3 feet over your head, putting the camera at the bottom of the screen would be much more in line with your TrackIR.
