OptiTrack data for Augmented Reality

I would like to start testing the infrared tracking system from OptiTrack, and see if it can help me track surgical tools for medical AR(Augmented Reality) projects. Up to know we used metatracking, but the results were not satisfied and stable.

Can someone give me advices or send me some appropriate links( since I am new in Arena software) of how I can quickly create a scalpel rigid body with three small infra markers on it, and run some tracking tests, to see if I can overlay, a 3d representation of a scalpel on top of the real scalpel's movements?

Can I create a good tracking volume and extract data with just 3 V100R2 cameras set up in a distance of 2 feet from each others? Are any limitations on set up to track very small props in a very small space area?

thank you

"Up to know we used metatracking, but the results were not satisfied and stable."

To clarify, I meant "ArToolKitPlus with custom enhancements we developed"

The V120:Trio might be the best option for you:

It comes with a free license of our Tracking Tools software, which will enable you to create a rigid body from markers mounted on your scalpel.

For markers, you might check out our 3mm and 4mm facial markers, which have an adhesive backing and are nice for tracking small objects in close proximity to the cameras:
