Hard to install TrackIR_5.2.1.Final.exe

I had a devil of a time just now installing TrackIR_5.2.1.Final.exe. I had been enjoying using my TrackIR4 rig on DCS World until I spotted the "News" window on the TrackIR window. I downloaded the new software but when I tried to install it, I got a message saying that "MS_VC2005_Runtime_SP1_ATL_8.0.61001_x86" had failed to install. Then I got an error message "Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Users\Public\Desktop. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator." even though I HAD run it as administrator!
Then I could not even install older TrackIR software as my program had been deleted during the failed install process! What a nightmare!
So I decided to reboot my pc, ran CCleaner64, cleaned the registry and tried again. I managed to download the "MS_VC2005_Runtime_SP1_ATL_8.0.61001_x86" file called "vcredist_x86.exe" and installed it manually. This time when I ran TrackIR_5.2.1.Final.exe, I still got the "MS_VC2005_Runtime_SP1_ATL_8.0.61001_x86 failed to install" message but at least the rest of the installation succeeded after looking like a false start.
I guess it is "all's well that ends well" but this was tough! I am just relieved that it finally got installed and it seems to be running properly at this moment.
If anyone knows what I was doing wrong, let me know.
