Stuttering problems while using trackir 5

Hello. I recently bought a trackir 5 device, and I installed the latest trackir software. Here are my specs:
Intel i5 750
ATI radeon HD 7770
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit
I play on a 42'' LCD TV, 5 feet away.
When I run the trackir software, sometime I get stuttering , no matter how I adjust the smooth slider. Sometime it's really smooth, no stuttering nor lag, then after a while, for no apparent reason, I start experiencing stuttering when I look around. I noticed in task manager that the cpu usage tends to decrease while I experience those stuttering episodes. And the weirdest part of it is that if I click on another tab in the software, "camera" for instance, the stuttering stop and it gets smooth again. But this is problematic when I'm playing a game like Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Any idea about what could be the cause(s) of this issue? Should I set the trackir process to "realtime" priority in task manager? Note that I have the latest ATI drivers.
