Hello -

I finally broke down and got it after a few guys in my virtual sqaudron got it and I began reading some rave reviews about it. Basically between the guys I game with and the reviews, I was instantly sold.

I got my new toy last night and the install went silky smooth (latest version I think 2.01).

My most basic oversation of the device is the dot and how it gets tracked. I have the dot mounted on the top of my head which is level with the sensor. The tracks perfectly if I keep my head in one plane and move it left to right or up and down. If I turn my head, tracking becomes more eratic. That's ok though I just have to condition myself to keep my forehead perpendictular to the sensor.

This leads to my big question. Currently, I would have to have a slinky neck in order to fully pan the cockpit. What setting controls the amount of head movement to what actually happens in the cockpit? I would like to calibrate the thing so that I would only have to move my head an inch or two to fully pan in one direction but I can't seem to find the right setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! yarbles

That would be the "speed" setting. Choose higher values and you will get more virtual pan for the given amount of head movement.

Don't just rely on the speed setting though or you won't get the precision you need to get the most out of TIR.

Take the time to mount the dot, or better yet a cluster of about 4 of them on a verticle, cylindrical surface (say, a pen shaft) and mount that onto a "boom" off of the bill of a baseball cap.

This brings the dot closer to the sensor for better precision AND allows for the dot(s) to be recognised at both edges of your tracking screen. Do not play without having full tracking in both directions (horiz, and vert) in setup WITHOUT THE BOUNDING BOX TURNING RED or you will get annoying pauses in-game.

Once you have full range without loss of tracking in the driver THEN you can jack up the speed to your liking to check six easily out of both sides. You may also want to set a curved deadzone to keep your aiming steady while allowing fast "six" checks.

Use a little common sense and a bit of handyman ingenuity when getting it set up so that you get the most precision out of it and you will save yourself alot of grief. It's not quite as easy as setting up a joystick but the rewards are well worth it!

Ive used a few different dot setups.

The one I am most happy with and continue to use is a 4 dot cluster (like a 4 leaf clover) on the brim of a baseball hat.

Works the best.

It's been a couple of weeks and I'm happy to report that I've gone to an 80s Flashdance style headband to achieve free look nirvana. I basically epoxied a portion of a ping-pong ball with a clover leaf clustrering of dots to the disco headband. I look like a dork but I now can get full range of viewing by only having to move my head a few degrees in either direction. I love this thing. Thanks for the help and thank god we don't game with web cams.
