TrackIR5 keeps freezing my PC

Hi,

I am having exactly the same issue as described here:

http://forums.naturalpoint.com/viewtopi ... 60&t=12349

and I was wondering if any resolution was found to that issue?

TrackIR5 randomly causes my PC to freeze, whilst playing any TrackIR enhanced game. As per the linked post, the whole PC freezes even to the extent that the hardware reset button doesn't work. I have to switch the PC's power off and back on.

I've had TrackIR5 for about 2 months now, and I love it! I originally installed the latest driver (5.22) and the issue was really bad, with crashes occurring as frequently as every 10 minutes. After I deduced that TrackIR was causing the problem, I removed the TrackIR receiver from the USB port and played my games without TrackIR - and no crashes.

Before reconnecting the TrackIR receiver, I uninstalled the 5.22 driver (just incase that was causing any problems) and installed the older 5.20 driver. Whilst I've been running 5.20, the crashes have been less frequent but are still occurring.

Do you have any advice, or findings, from the post I've linked to above please?

Thank you.

Hello rich1,

You shouldn't have this issue regardless of which version of our software you use. If you could test this issue on a different computer it would help a lot. First I would like to you go into device manager and adjust the power settings on your USB hub, and restart to see if that solves the problem. Second, I would like you to create a ticket at help.naturalpoint.com so we can look into this further if need be.

Best regards,

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your fast reply.

I've gone into my PC's device manager (it's a Windows 7 PC) and found the "generic USB hub" that my TrackIR is connected to. I have 2 "generic USB hub" devices listed, and from the devices connected to each generic hub, one of the hubs clearly relates to the USB ports on the front of my PC's case and the other clearly relates to the USB ports on the rear of the case. My TrackIR is connected to one of the rear ports.

The only options I can see relating to power are the ones that say "allow the computer to turn off this device" and "allow this device to wake the computer". The "allow the computer to turn off this device" was enabled for the USB hub that my TrackIR is connected to. I have disabled this, and to ensure the computer isn't powering anything down, I've disabled this for both "generic USB hub" devices and the 3 "USB root hub" devices listed.

I will see what happens now that I've made this change. If I still have problems, I will raise a ticket.
