Trackir 5 not recognized by cfs3 & fsx

Hello all,
I installed TrakIR 5 with S/W version 5.2.2
When updating the S/W it tells me that I have the updated version.
The left green light is on.
The sensor on my baseball cap is recognized and there are no red spots.
The TrackIR works fine, it detects the spots and I can see it clearly on the screen,
I can also align it to the center - I can tell it's working - but it is not recognized by fsx and by cfs3 !
I tried all sorts of features in TrackIR, to no avail. The flight simulator does not see it.
Another annoying behavior - after starting flight sim and switching to TrackIR with [Alt + TAB],
the TrackIR response is extremely slow, it updates itself once every 20 seconds or so, something ridiculously slow, but when I click on the "Dispaly" drop down menu at the top left corner of the real time tracking window, the trackIR returns too normal response time - and when the "Dispaly" drop down menu is gone, TrackIR returns to its 20 seconds response time.
The sensor is connected directly to the computer (no usb hub).
FSX and all other sims are working fine with or without TrackIR (except no tracking).
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
De Havilland
