Controlling the 2D cockpit with TrackIR

Not only can you control the 3D virtual cockpit with TIR, but also the 2D as well.

What it pans is the external view in the 2D cockpit, not the 2D artwork unfortunately. When you move your head you see the outside perspective pan appropriately, but the 2D artwork is always the same view.

One way to make the moving 2D artwork palletable in this mode, is to hit the W key and turn off the artwork and then control the view with TIR. You can hit W again if you want to have the popup instruments also disappear. I dont recommend using TIR in the 2D cockpit _with_ the 2D artwork up and looking around - its funky looking. If you want to bring the 2D artwork back, hit W key again and the SPC bar to re-center the view.

If you want to use TIR and have the 2D cockpit art up, then use it to control your seat perspective in the 2D cockpit. Once you find the right viewing angle with TIR, disable TIR to lock that angle.

In the fs9.cfg file add this line in the (CONTROLS) section:

pan_in_cockpit_mode=1

Well gentlemen this sure does not work for me

I have a CHPRO FLIGHTSIM YOKE complete with "Hat switch" In 3D and 2D cockpit modes I get zero motion and a completely full green screen on the tracking mode screen when using this yoke.

To get the TRACKIR going again, I have to reinstall TRACKIR. I have to say though that when I use the TRACKIR with a Microsoft JoyStick that TRACKIR works reasonably well in 3D mode..

I guess TRACKIR and the CHPRO YOKE are not compatible. Although with my limited knowledge of computers I would think that the action of the "Hat switch" should be able to be substituted with TRACKIR motion.

As for the "pan_in_cockpit_mode =1" insertion in FS9cfg files - I have to retry this with both yokes. From comments though, it would seem to be a lost cause to expect TRACKIR to work with any degree of success in the 2D Cockpit mode, and to me, this seems like a great pity because this concept has such a huge potential for providing truly amazing realistic views for flight simmers.

TRACKIR has teased me into wanting more life-like sim flying.

Whilst this may appear to be a "Bitching Session" I would just like to say that I do appreciate the willingness and efforts of Forum members in trying to help and solve problems of this type.

A big "Thankyou" goes to all of you who take the time and interest in helping other people, not only on this FS Forum, but TRACKIR 1,2 and 3 Forums also. There are also other sections too numerous to mention.

So, having said all of the above, it would be great if someone could come up with a solution to my problems. Hopefully I am not unique and other simmers have similar problems.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Regards to all

Gentlemen - and possibly Ladies too.

Upon further experimentation I now confirm what AV8R posted above is an accurate account of what happens with TRACKIR3.

It does work with both my Microsoft Joystick and the CH PRO Yoke. (I must have screwed up somewhere with the FScfg File.) For this I wish to apologise to all for casting any doubts upon the information kindly posted for my benefit

However, I do reiterate my disappointment in TRACKIR not being able to duplicate the "Snap views" in the 2D cockpit relating to the use of the "Hat switch" OR the Number Key Lock on the keyboard.

Perchance, TRACKIR4 will accomodate this function

Meanwhile, I'll continue to enjoy TRACKIR3 and be thankfull that at least I have it for the 3D cockpit views.

Regards to All,
