Camera suddenly not detected after updating to 5.4.2

Long story short:

Was using TrackIR 5, probably with older (32 bit?) driver for Windows 7 x64. Saw that new software was available and downloaded it. It insisted on installing a 64-bit driver, so I said fine, but then it immediately rebooted my machine (bad form, but whatever). When machine rebooted and software finished installing, it wouldn't detect my camera, which was working fine just moments before.
I tried uninstalling, then installing the previous version of the software (5.2.2) with no success.

Any ideas? I'm really stuck here.

Papageno,

What happens if you plug the TrackIR into a different USB port? Does that re-initialize the driver install? If that doesn't work, please start a ticket with me at help.naturalpoint.com.

Sorry about the no warning reboot. That was an issue in 5.2.2 that was in there from a previous dev. It is fixed in new versions, but nothing we can do about the ones it is already in.

Regards,

Actually Mike, the spontaneous reboot thing still happened with the 5.4.2 installer.

As to your other advice, I'll consider it, although after I last posted (having uninstalled 5.4.2 and reinstalled 5.2.2), I decided to try going under the Device Manager again, clicking on Update Driver, and going the "Have disk" route, then browsing to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\USB Drivers x64\npusbio_x64 and loading the file npusbio_x64.inf

Fired up TrackIR 5.2.2 again, and this time the camera was detected. Don't understand why it required manual driver loading like that, and as far as I can tell it's the exact same driver info reported in the Device Manager, but whatever. Now I'm loath to mess with it since it's back to working with the old software.

What "must-have" improvements are in later versions, anyway, that I'm not getting in 5.2.2 under Windows 7? My hardware is likely around 2 years old, since I got it in August 2014.

Responding to my own post to ask the question once more, is there a list of bug fixes/improvements that version 5.4.x brought with it that weren't in the previous versions of the software?

I think I'm currently still running 5.2.2, and the only thing I've noticed that goes badly is that sometimes if I look up suddenly the view goes wonky (the tracking fails, in other words). Does the 5.4.2 version fix that? If it does or has other must-have fixes, I'd like to try it, but I don't want to have the previous experience where it suddenly wasn't detecting the camera.

I'm using the non-pro clip with the reflectors BTW.

Papageno,

Here is what's listed on the site.

Feature Enhancements

Improved handling of situations where User Interface Privilege Isolation could interfere with TrackIR title integration, such as hotkeys failing to work when a TrackIR Enhanced title is run with elevated (administrator) privileges but the TrackIR software is not.

Fixes

Fixed a regression in TrackIR 5.4.1 where DirectInput joystick buttons 33-128 were not usable for hotkeys.

Known Issues

Since version 5.3.0, the TrackIR software requires Windows Vista or newer, and can no longer be used with Windows XP or below.
