I found the problem! I have an HTC Vive with two light houses on opposite sides of the room. I covered them and now the TrackIR is working fine. It must the the extra IR emission in the room that is causing issues. I'll will be doing some additional verification, but I wanted to get this on the thread.

Well, I thought I fixed it but it is back to the low frames again.

The steps I had taken:
1. Started TrackIR application (low frames)
2. Covered the light houses (in desperation)
3. unplugged the TrackIR and plugged back into the same USB port
4. The TrackIR started behaving correctly
5. Started a game and was able to use TrackIR
6. Restarted computer
7. Started TrackIR
8. low frames again
9. unplugged and plugged back into same USB port
10. Low frames remained

Apparently it was just luck that it started working again. Back to the drawing board.

I'm leaning toward this being an issue with the driver on Windows 10 1909+ or my TrackIR is failing. I've tried the device on other system that are also 1909 or greater and have the same issue. I will see if I can find a device on an older build of Windows 10 or Windows 7 to see if the issue remains or not. Doing this would rule out the TrackIR device as having problems. If it does still have issues on an older system, then I'm going to assume my TrackIR is failing and I'll look into getting a new one.

I tried it on a laptop with Windows 10 1809 and have the same issue. Slow frame rate unless mouse is actively moved over the 3d view. I give up.

I think it’s the hardware. Your camera is also older version, my camera serial is #109332 and yours was #117592

Are you using the latest version of TrackIR?
Are you seeing this jittering behavior in-game also?

In the video, I noticed that the framerate jumps up as you are moving the mouse cursor over the viewport.
Track IR software doesn't necessarily clamp its frame update rate at 60-fps, and the software is not representing how fast the Track IR is processing data. The reason why the frame rate jumps up when the mouse is moving over it, is probably because we are forcing the frame rate to give you proper mouse update rate when adjusting the view. But when there is no mouse data, there isn't a need to draw that many frames. Lowering the frame rate when not in use also saves the GPU from having to work as hard. I think this might be what you are seeing. Could you please check whether if the tracking rate is low when using it in the game?

Regards,

I hate to bump a 5 year old thread, but I'm having this same issue and this is the only relevant thread I've managed to find.

The frame rate/refresh rate of the preview window looks choppy until I am actively moving my mouse within it; then it looks much smoother. I'm fairly certain this is translating to my gameplay because when I pan with the tracking it feels choppy, but if I turn off head tracking and just pan with my joystick it feels smooth. I've tried in Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen they both have this problem for me.

My setup:
Windows 11 recently clean installed, all updated
AMD 7900X3D
EVGA RTX 3080
32GB DDR5 4800MHz (no expo currently)
Samsung 990 pro NVMe m.2 (Windows, TIR and tested games installed on this drive)
I have a dual monitor setup with the main being a 144hz AOC 24G2 and second is an old 60Hz AOC ips.

Could the differing monitor refresh rates be causing me any issues? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi NashV1,

I have a few questions to help identify the possible cause of this behavior. First, is your TrackIR connected directly to a USB port on the motherboard (not through a USB hub)? What values are you using for smoothing and speed? Are you using the TrackClip or the TrackClip Pro?

Do you see the same issue if you connect only one monitor? Can you try limiting your 144 Hz monitor to 120 Hz so that both monitors have a multiple of 60?

Kind Regards,

Yes, the TrackIR is plugged directly into the motherboard. I'm using the TrackClip Pro with speed set to 1 and smoothing set to 20.

Changing my main monitor to 120Hz didn't change this behavior. Then I unplugged the second monitor and restarted windows just to be sure but it's still happening.

Hello NashV1,

Are you plugging the TrackIR camera into the pigtail on the TrackClip Pro, or are they plugged in separately? Is your TrackClip Pro aligned correctly with the camera and oriented correctly? See this guide for tips: https://d1rhoi6onixddn.cloudfront.net/d ... _23.06.pdf.

If you switch the TrackIR software to camera view, do you see the same behavior when looking at the three dots as you do when looking at the normal view? Do the dots ever turn red?

My TrackClip Pro doesn't have a USB power tap like shown in that picture. They are both plugged in separately. The camera view does not have the same issue, but to my eye it looks like it's displaying less than 120fps despite the stats saying it's 120. They don't turn red.
