Is the USB connection only for power or data?

Does the TrackClipPro needs USB for Power only or does the ClipPro needs to be connected to the PC for some kind of data communication?

I suppose only for powering the LED lights but not 100% sure.
For me important as powering the device only is easier with a shorter cable or a battery pack under the seat as compared to connect to my PC which is far away ....

most likely, given that there are never any drivers installed and i can use a usb wall charger, the clip is drawing +5 volts off the usb power rail.

Having a shorter wire or a battery pack under the seat makes it easier for me to power the gadget than connecting it to my PC, which is a long distance away.

The clip is using the USB power rail to draw +5 volts.
