To answer your questions…

1. The socket that you see on the side of the TrackIR2 unit is for an external switch and is not connected or usable in this version.
2. The four eyes that you refer to are the emitters and on the TrackIR2 these were changed. There is also a darker lens mounted in the TrackIR2.
